11-07-2026 Luke 16 v0915 Who Will Give You What Is Yours
The Gospel of Luke Ch 16 Verse 9 thru 15
9 I tell you, make friends for yourselves with dishonest wealth, so that when it fails, you will be welcomed into eternal dwellings. 10 The person who is trustworthy in very small matters is also trustworthy in great ones; and the person who is dishonest in very small matters is also dishonest in great ones. 11 If, therefore, you are not trustworthy with dishonest wealth, who will trust you with true wealth? 12 If you are not trustworthy with what belongs to another, who will give you what is yours? 13 No servant can serve two masters. He will either hate one and love the other or be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.” 14 The Pharisees, who loved money, heard all these things and sneered at him. 15 And he said to them, “You justify yourselves in the sight of others, but God knows your hearts; for what is of human esteem is an abomination in the sight of God. “
In Luke 16:9-15, Jesus offers profound guidance on the use of wealth and the nature of true allegiance. He tells his listeners to “make friends for yourselves with dishonest wealth, so that when it fails, you will be welcomed into eternal dwellings.” At first glance, this phrase may seem perplexing; after all, how can wealth, especially if deemed “dishonest,” be a tool for fostering friendship or securing one’s eternal destiny?
The key lies in understanding the temporal and transitory nature of material wealth. “Dishonest wealth” can refer not just to ill-gotten gains but also to the fleeting, hollow value often placed on earthly riches. Jesus encourages His followers to use their resources wisely, redirecting them toward acts of kindness and generosity that build relationships and foster community. When we invest in others—helping the needy, supporting the marginalized—we transcend the trappings of materialism. These acts create bonds of friendship that have eternal significance, as they reflect our love for God and His creation.
Furthermore, this passage serves as a reminder that God knows our hearts. In verse 15, Jesus emphasizes that what is prized in human eyes is often detestable to God. The values of this world—status, wealth, and power—can lead our hearts astray and away from the divine purpose. True wealth lies not in accumulation but in alignment with God’s heart: seeking justice, mercy, and humility.
As you reflect on this teaching, consider where you place your trust and treasure. Use your resources to cultivate relationships that honor God, knowing that it is these connections that will usher you into eternal life. Amen.
Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.
At the Savior’s command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.
I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

**Who Will Give You What Is Yours**
In the shadows of the marketplace,
Where wealth and power vie for grace,
A tale unfolds, so wise, so deep,
Of shrewdness stirred from wakeful sleep.
“Use unrighteous wealth,” the teacher spoke,
“Like a bridge, not a fetter, hear this yoke;
For friends made in the light of day,
Can welcome you when you lose your way.”
From the depths of earthly gain,
To the heights where heaven’s reign,
The heart is tested, true and clear,
For love of silver dims your fear.
Whoever’s faithful, small in gain,
Will find their riches without stain;
But those who cling to shadows’ might,
Shall find their hopes consumed by night.
The heart that treasures gold and fame,
Cannot serve two lords as the same;
For what is praised by men so loud,
In heaven’s eyes, is but a shroud.
So heed this lesson, clear and bright,
Let generosity be your guiding light.
For in the giving, we truly find,
The wealth of spirit, pure and kind.
In every choice, in every deed,
Let love for others be your creed,
For in this dance of life’s embrace,
We mirror the divine’s own eternal grace. Amen.
