10-27-2026 Luke 13 v1821 What Shall I Compare The Kingdom of God

The Gospel of Luke Ch 13 Verse 18 thru 21

18 Then he said, “What is the kingdom of God like? To what can I compare it? 19 It is like a mustard seed that a person took and planted in the garden. When it was fully grown, it became a large bush and ‘the birds of the sky dwelt in its branches.’” 20 Again he said, “To what shall I compare the kingdom of God? 21 It is like yeast that a woman took and mixed [in] with three measures of wheat flour until the whole batch of dough was leavened.”

Luke 13:18-21 presents two parables that illustrate the nature of the Kingdom of God through simple yet profound imagery. In these verses, Jesus compares the Kingdom to a mustard seed and yeast, both of which, though small and seemingly insignificant, have transformative power.

The parable of the mustard seed highlights the idea that the Kingdom of God starts small but grows to encompass great things. A mustard seed is tiny—almost imperceptible—but once planted, it grows into a sizable tree where birds find shelter. This imagery suggests that the Kingdom of God begins with humble beginnings, symbolized by Jesus’ own ministry and the early followers who were often overlooked by society. Over time, however, these small acts of faith and obedience can lead to a massive expansion of God’s influence in the world.

Similarly, the parable of the yeast illustrates how something small can profoundly impact its surroundings. When yeast is mixed into a batch of dough, it transforms the entire batch, making it rise. This represents how the teachings and values of the Kingdom of God can infiltrate and permeate society, leading to a transformation of hearts and lives. Just as yeast is invisible yet effective, the work of the Kingdom often happens quietly and subtly but can lead to significant change.

Together, these parables convey that the Kingdom of God is both a present reality and a future promise. It emphasizes that God’s work often begins in obscure, unnoticed ways yet has the potential to grow and change the world. The message encourages believers to hold on to hope, recognizing that even small acts of faith can lead to transformative outcomes. Amen.

Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.

At the Savior’s command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.

I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

**What Shall I Compare The Kingdom of God**

In a land where the stories unfold,

A parable spoken, both simple and bold,

Of a mustard seed, so tiny, so small,

Yet destined to flourish, to rise and enthrall.

From the hands of the farmer, with faith in the ground,

A seed is cast forth, with promise profound.

Through storms and through trials, it grows and it thrives,

A refuge for many, where life truly provides.

And the yeast in the dough, though hidden from view,

Transforms the whole batch, with its warmth in its stew.

Through patience and process, it works day by day,

Bringing forth transformation, in a marvelous way.

So, too, in the kingdom, so humble at first,

A movement ignited, with passion and thirst.

From small beginnings, a wave shall arise,

To touch every heart, and to open the skies.

Let us not overlook what the smallest can bring,

For in the unnoticeable, lies the heart of the King.

May we nurture the seeds, let the yeast take its time,

For in faith and in love, our spirits shall climb. Amen.
