10-25-2026 Matthew 22 v3440 Love Your Neighbor As Yourself

The Gospel of Matthew Ch 22 Verse 34 thru 40

34 When the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together, 35 and one of them [a scholar of the law] tested him by asking, 36 “Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?”37j He said to him, “You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. 38 This is the greatest and the first commandment. 39 The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments.”

Matthew 22:34-40 recounts a pivotal moment in which Jesus is questioned by a lawyer about the greatest commandment. In response, Jesus summarizes the essence of the law by stating, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind,” and adds, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” This concise yet profound teaching encapsulates the foundation of Christian ethics and morality.

To love your neighbor as yourself means to extend the same compassion, kindness, and respect to others that you desire for yourself. It implores individuals to recognize their shared humanity and to act not out of obligation but from a place of genuine empathy. When we love our neighbors as ourselves, we seek their well-being, support their needs, and promote their dignity.

This command challenges us to reflect on how we treat those around us. It encourages us to look beyond our immediate circles and extend our love to all, including those who may be different from us or those who may challenge us. Loving our neighbor can manifest in various ways—through acts of service, words of encouragement, or simply by practicing patience and understanding.

Furthermore, this commandment ties closely to loving God, as our relationships with others often mirror our relationship with the divine. When we love others, we are living out our faith in a tangible way, showcasing the love and grace we have received. In a world filled with division and strife, embracing the call to love our neighbor as ourselves can be transformative, leading to a more compassionate and harmonious society.

In essence, loving your neighbor as yourself is not merely a suggestion but a vital expression of faith that shapes how we interact with the world around us. Amen.

Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.

At the Savior’s command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.

I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

**Love Your Neighbor As Yourself**

In the heart of time, a question unfolds,

A lawyer arose, with wisdom so bold.

“Teacher,” he asked, in the throng of the crowd,

“What’s the greatest commandment?”—his tone clear and loud.

Jesus looked deep, with compassion and grace,

Saw the search for truth etched on each face.

“Love the Lord your God,” He proclaimed from above,

“With all of your heart, with all of your love.”

“With all of your soul, and all of your mind,

This first and great commandment, true love you will find.

And the second is like it, a call to embrace grace,

Love your neighbor as yourself, let love interlace.”

On these two commandments, all law takes its stand,

In love, we find guidance, a divine guiding hand.

For in every heart that chooses to care,

Is the essence of faith, a covenant rare.

So let us walk boldly on this sacred path,

In kindness and mercy, escaping all wrath.

For in loving each other, we honor the call—

To love God, love our enemy’s and neighbors, encompasses it all. Amen.
