10-24-2026 Luke 13 v0109 You Will All Perish As They Did

The Gospel of Luke Ch 13 Verse One thru Nine

1 At that time some people who were present there told him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with the blood of their sacrifices. 2 He said to them in reply, “Do you think that because these Galileans suffered in this way they were greater sinners than all other Galileans? 3 By no means! But I tell you, if you do not repent, you will all perish as they did! 4 Or those eighteen people who were killed when the tower at Siloam fell on them—do you think they were more guilty than everyone else who lived in Jerusalem? 5 By no means! But I tell you, if you do not repent, you will all perish as they did!” 6 And he told them this parable: “There once was a person who had a fig tree planted in his orchard, and when he came in search of fruit on it but found none, 7 he said to the gardener, ‘For three years now I have come in search of fruit on this fig tree but have found none. [So] cut it down. Why should it exhaust the soil?’ 8 He said to him in reply, ‘Sir, leave it for this year also, and I shall cultivate the ground around it and fertilize it; 9 it may bear fruit in the future. If not you can cut it down.’

In Luke 13:1-9, Jesus addresses the tragic reality of suffering and divine judgment through the accounts of Galileans whose blood Pilate mingled with their sacrifices, and a tower in Siloam that fell, killing eighteen people. His listeners may have thought these events were a direct result of the victims’ sinfulness, a common belief at the time. However, Jesus refutes this notion, emphasizing that such calamities are not necessarily indicative of one’s guilt or standing before God. He urges repentance, warning that all could similarly face judgment if they remain unrepentant.

The passage hints that the will of God encompasses a deeper, more profound understanding of suffering and grace. God’s desire is for humanity to turn towards Him, to repent and seek a relationship with the divine. Suffering does not discriminate; both sinners and the seemingly righteous face trials and tribulations. In this way, God invites reflection on life’s fragility and the urgency of spiritual renewal.

Consider the parable of the barren fig tree that follows: the gardener implores for one more chance to nurture and fertilize the tree before deciding its fate. This highlights God’s patience and mercy, illustrating that while His will may include judgment, it also encompasses grace and a desire for redemption. It poses the question of how individuals respond to God’s persistent efforts toward transformation.

Ultimately, the suffering of good and evil people alike challenges our understanding of justice and divine will. It reminds us that God’s ways are not always aligned with human expectations. Instead, in the face of adversity, God calls for a deeper response—a return to Him in repentance and an embrace of divine grace, offering hope that even the lost can find restoration. Amen.

Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.

At the Savior’s command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.

I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

Ephesians 6:17-20

**You Will All Perish As They Did**

In ancient times a tale was told,

Of sorrow deep and hearts turned cold,

As whispering crowds, with questions posed,

Brought news of fate, of lives supposed.

“Look, they said, those Galileans disposition,

Their blood mixed with sacrifices’ expositions,

Was it their sin that brought such woe?

What hidden faults made their spirits low?”

But wisdom spoke from a gentle place,

“No sin’s the cause for such disgrace.

But turn your hearts, examine your ways,

For the time is short, life’s fleeting days.”

“Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower fell,

Do you think they were worse? Can you tell?

Nay, I say to you, all must repent,

Lest in their path, your lives be spent.”

Then came a parable, a vineyard’s plight,

A barren fig tree, lacking in sight,

Three years of waiting, no fruit to glean,

The keeper sighed, “Why let this stand mean?”

Yet mercy spoke, with a voice so kind,

“Give it one more year, let grace unwind,

I’ll tend to its roots, I’ll nurture the soil’s will,

Perhaps it will blossom, rewarded for toil’s till.”

So take heed, dear souls, of this timeless call,

For life is a garden, we rise or we fall.

Embrace the chances, let wisdom unfold,

In love and in kindness, let your heart be bold.

Bear fruit in the world, let compassion reside,

For the heart that is open, shall never divide.

In the echoes of ages, this truth we glean,

A life that is given, in hope, shall be seen. Amen.
