09-30-2026 Luke 9 v5762 I Will Follow You Lord
The Gospel of Luke Ch 9 Verse 57 thru 62
57 As they were proceeding on their journey someone said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.” 58 Jesus answered him, “Foxes have dens and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to rest his head.” 59 And to another he said, “Follow me.” But he replied, “[Lord,] let me go first and bury my father.” 60 But he answered him, “Let the dead bury their dead. But you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God.” 61 And another said, “I will follow you, Lord, but first let me say farewell to my family at home.” 62 [To him] Jesus said, “No one who sets a hand to the plow and looks to what was left behind is fit for the kingdom of God.”
Luke 9:57-62 presents a profound teaching from Jesus about the cost of discipleship and the urgency of proclaiming the Kingdom of God. In this passage, we encounter three individuals who express their desire to follow Jesus, but their responses reveal the barriers that hold them back. Jesus challenges them, emphasizing that true discipleship demands unconditional commitment.
The first man boldly states his intention to follow Jesus wherever He goes. However, Jesus warns him about the sacrifices involved, explaining that “foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.” This highlights the reality that following Him often means embracing uncertainty and hardship.
In the second instance, Jesus calls another to follow Him, but the man requests to first bury his father. Jesus responds, “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God.” This stark statement underscores the urgency of our mission: proclaiming the kingdom must take precedence over even the most sacred family duties.
Lastly, another man expresses his desire to follow Jesus but insists on saying goodbye to his family first. Jesus replies, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.” This metaphor conveys that a divided focus can hinder our effectiveness as disciples.
Following Jesus unconditionally is essential because it reflects our love and commitment to Him, who sacrificed everything for our salvation. The call to proclaim God’s kingdom carries immense significance, as it opens the door to eternal life for ourselves and others. Understanding the weight of this calling can inspire us to live boldly for Christ, recognizing that our faithfulness impacts not just our lives but the lives of those around us for eternity. Amen.

At the Savior’s command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.
I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

**I Will Follow You Lord**
In the quiet of the day, as followers gathered near,
A traveler asked of Christ, his voice both bold and clear,
“Lord, I will follow you, wherever you may lead,”
But the Savior turned, with wisdom planted as a seed.
“To follow on this journey isn’t simple, you will find,
Foxes have their dens, the birds their nests aligned,
But the Son of Man, my friend, has nowhere to lay His head,
A life of trials and sacrifice, where the faithful dare to tread.”
Another came, with eagerness ablaze,
“Lord, let me first return, to bury father’s remains,”
But Jesus spoke with urgency, the mission to fulfill,
“Let the dead bury their dead; proclaim God’s kingdom still.”
Yet another, with a heart ablaze, declared,
“I will follow you, oh Lord, but first, a moment spared,
To bid farewell to those I love, to share a last goodbye.”
But Christ remarked, “No one who looks behind” will cry.
The call to follow echoes through the ages still,
A challenge to each heart that seeks to do His will.
No earthly ties can bind us once we hear the sacred call,
For those who seek must journey forth, to rise or risk the fall.
In every heart that yearns to follow, in every earnest plea,
Remember the path of Christ, how He walked by faith so free.
For true discipleship is costly, yet the reward is clear,
The kingdom of God awaits us, and His love will draw us near. Amen.
