09-23-2026 Luke 9 v0106 Proclaiming The Good News
The Gospel of Luke Ch 9 Verse One thru Six
1 He summoned the Twelve and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, 2 and he sent them to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal [the sick]. 3 He said to them, “Take nothing for the journey, neither walking stick, nor sack, nor food, nor money, and let no one take a second tunic. 4 Whatever house you enter, stay there and leave from there. 5 And as for those who do not welcome you, when you leave that town, shake the dust from your feet in testimony against them.” 6 Then they set out and went from village to village proclaiming the good news and curing diseases everywhere.
In Luke 9:1-6, Jesus empowers His twelve disciples, giving them authority over demons and diseases, commanding them to proclaim the Kingdom of God and to heal the sick. He instructs them to travel light, relying on the hospitality of those who receive their message. However, Jesus also prepares them for rejection. He tells them that if they are not welcomed, they should shake the dust off their feet as a testimony against those towns.
This act of shaking the dust from one’s feet symbolizes a powerful declaration. In ancient Jewish tradition, it was a way to show disassociation from a place or people, indicating that the disciples had done their part by sharing the good news of Jesus. If the message of salvation was rejected, shaking off the dust served as a reminder of the responsibility of those who heard it. It signified that the disciples were not bearing the weight of that rejection, but rather, it was a testimony against those who chose to close their hearts to God’s invitation.
For us today, this passage emphasizes the importance of sharing our faith. When we testify about Jesus as our Savior, we can expect varied responses. Some will embrace the message, while others may reject or ridicule it. However, if we face opposition, we are reminded that our responsibility ends with sharing the truth. Shaking the dust off our feet is not merely a gesture of frustration; it is a solemn acknowledgment that we are called to move on and continue spreading the Gospel, trusting that God’s Spirit will work in the hearts of those who are receptive. Ultimately, it’s about perseverance in our mission and leaving the outcome in God’s hands. Amen.

At the Savior’s command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.
I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

**Proclaiming The Good News**
In a quiet place, the Master stood,
Calling forth the twelve, as only He could.
He gathered them close, with purpose divine,
To send them forth, their hearts would align.
“Go out,” said Jesus, “with power and grace,
Boldly proclaim, let love find its place.
Heal the sick, the broken, and lost,
For in my name, you’ll bear any cost.”
He clothed them with strength, adorned them with light,
Anointed their feet to carry His might.
No staff, no bread, no extra design,
Just trust in the Father, your needs will align.
So they ventured forth, through towns and through streets,
With courage as armor, and faith as their peace.
They shared the good news, of mercy and care,
Transforming the world, with the love they would share.
In every encounter, the signs would unfold,
The stories of healings, of hope to be told.
And dust from their sandals, a sign of the day,
That love and redemption would find the true way.
So let us remember, the call from above,
To carry the message, to share all His love.
For in every journey, in every small deed,
We, too, are His mission, sowing hope to those freed. Amen.
