The Gospel of Luke Ch 8 Verse 19 thru 21
19 Then his mother and his brothers came to him but were unable to join him because of the crowd. 20 He was told, “Your mother and your brothers are standing outside and they wish to see you.” 21 He said to them in reply, “My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and act on it.”
In Luke 8:19-21, we encounter a pivotal moment where Jesus redefines ancestral bonds. When informed that His mother and brothers are seeking Him, He responds, “My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and act on it.” This passage highlights the spiritual kinship established through obedience to God’s word, rather than biological relationships. This teaching underscores the Catholic understanding of Mary’s unique role in salvation history.
We Catholics believe that Mary, the Mother of Jesus, is perpetually a virgin, a teaching rooted not only in sacred tradition but also in Scripture. The references to “brothers” and “sisters” in the Bible have been interpreted differently throughout history. The Church teaches that these terms can also refer to close relatives or kin, not necessarily biological siblings. This perspective emphasizes Mary’s singular vocation and her unwavering commitment to God’s will.
Furthermore, Mary’s perpetual virginity signifies her complete and total dedication to God, which is an integral aspect of her identity as the Mother of God. Theologically, it underscores her purity and the divine nature of Christ’s conception, affirming that Jesus is both fully human and fully divine. The belief in Mary’s state of grace is significant; she is seen as a model of holiness and discipleship, embodying the call to live out God’s word in one’s life.
Jesus’ identification of those who hear and act on the word of God as His true family invites all believers to recognize their calling to build a relationship with the divine through faith. This reinforces the idea that spiritual kinship, fostered through living out God’s teachings, transcends earthly ties, culminating in a deeper connection with Christ and His mother, Mary. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.
I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

**Who Hears The Word of God And Act On It**
In a humble home, where the crowd swells near,
A message was spoken—so profound, so clear.
“Your mother and brethren,” the people proclaimed,
“Stand outside, seeking you,” but His heart unchained.
He turned with conviction, His gaze warm and bright,
And said, “Who are My mother, My brethren, in sight?”
Not bound by the flesh, nor by lineage tight,
But those who hear God’s word and walk in His light.
“Whoever obeys,” He beckons us still,
“Is My sister, My brother, My heart’s deepest thrill.”
In the realm of the Spirit, a new family blooms,
Where love knows no borders, and grace always looms.
So let us remember, as life unfolds,
The bonds of connection that faith can hold.
For in every believer, we find sacred ties,
A brotherhood, sisterhood, that truly never dies. Amen.
