09-10-2026 1 Corinthians 8 v0113 You Are Sinning Against Christ
The 1st Letter to the Corinthians Ch 8 Verse 1 thru 13
1 Now in regard to meat sacrificed to idols: we realize that “all of us have knowledge”; knowledge inflates with pride, but love builds up. 2 If anyone supposes he knows something, he does not yet know as he ought to know. 3 But if one loves God, one is known by him. 4 So about the eating of meat sacrificed to idols: we know that “there is no idol in the world,” and that “there is no God but one.” 5 Indeed, even though there are so-called gods in heaven and on earth (there are, to be sure, many “gods” and many “lords”), 6 yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom all things are and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things are and through whom we exist. 7 But not all have this knowledge. There are some who have been so used to idolatry up until now that, when they eat meat sacrificed to idols, their conscience, which is weak, is defiled. 8 Now food will not bring us closer to God. We are no worse off if we do not eat, nor are we better off if we do. 9 But make sure that this liberty of yours in no way becomes a stumbling block to the weak. 10 If someone sees you, with your knowledge, reclining at table in the temple of an idol, may not his conscience too, weak as it is, be “built up” to eat the meat sacrificed to idols? 11 Thus through your knowledge, the weak person is brought to destruction, the brother for whom Christ died. 12 When you sin in this way against your brothers and wound their consciences, weak as they are, you are sinning against Christ. 13 Therefore, if food causes my brother to sin, I will never eat meat again, so that I may not cause my brother to sin.
In 1 Corinthians 8:1-13, the Apostle Paul addresses the issue of food sacrificed to idols, a topic that was contentious among early Christians. While some believers recognized that idols are merely human creations—essentially “mini gods” lacking any true power—others were still trapped in the lingering belief of their significance. Paul reminds us that for those of us who follow Christ, there is truly only one God, the Father, from whom all things originate, and for whom we exist. Our understanding as Christians is anchored in the truth that all things came into being through one Lord, Jesus Christ, who is the living embodiment of God’s ultimate revelation. This profound relationship emphasizes that everything and everyone is sustained through Him, creating a connectivity in the divine order that transcends worldly beliefs.
Moreover, Paul emphasizes the presence of the Holy Spirit, who enables our understanding and helps guide us in our daily lives. The Holy Spirit is the source of wisdom and discernment, guiding us to live in a way that reflects our one true faith. Yet, Paul poignantly observes that not all believers possess this knowledge. Some remain tied to old ways of thinking, influenced by their surroundings and the culture of idolatry.
This passage challenges us to act with love and sensitivity towards those less mature in their faith. Our freedom as believers should not become a stumbling block for others. As we navigate our lives amidst a world filled with distractions and false deities, may we hold fast to the truth of our one God, one Lord, and one Spirit, and strive to build up rather than tear down in our community. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.
I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

**You Are Sinning Against Christ**
In a world of idols, crafted by hand,
Where hearts once wandered on shifting sand,
Paul speaks of knowledge, both pure and kind,
Reminding us gently to love and to bind.
For some are still lost in the shadows of doubt,
Their faith not yet strong; they wonder about,
The food that is offered to figures of stone,
While we know that true God stands sovereign alone.
One Father, one Spirit, one Lord, we confess,
From whom all creation flows, blessed to possess.
Through Christ, all things flourish, in Him we find grace,
Our lives intertwined in His loving embrace.
Yet knowledge can puff up, make proud the heart’s stance,
The wise must be careful, give love a fair chance.
For what builds us up might tear others down,
So let’s wear humility like a soft crown.
As we walk in our freedom, let’s pause and reflect,
That our actions can lead or cause one to wreck.
To know is to cherish, but love is the key,
Uniting us all in eternal sweet harmony.
So gather together where grace reigns supreme,
Lift each other gently, fulfill each one’s dream.
In all that we do, let love light our way,
For in Christ’s holy bond, we truly convey. Amen.
