07-18-2026 Matthew 12 v1421 In His Name The Gentiles Will Hope
The Gospel of Matthew Chapter 12 Verse 14 thru 21
14 But the Pharisees went out and took counsel against him to put him to death. 15 When Jesus realized this, he withdrew from that place. Many [people] followed him, and he cured them all, 16 but he warned them not to make him known. 17 This was to fulfill what had been spoken through Isaiah the prophet: 18 “Behold, my servant whom I have chosen, my beloved in whom I delight; I shall place my spirit upon him, and he will proclaim justice to the Gentiles. 19 He will not contend or cry out, nor will anyone hear his voice in the streets. 20 A bruised reed he will not break, a smoldering wick he will not quench, until he brings justice to victory. 21 And in his name the Gentiles will hope.”
In Matthew 12:14-21, we witness a pivotal moment in the ministry of Jesus, where His approach to public perception and the embodiment of His mission is critically revealed. After healing a man with a withered hand, the Pharisees plotted against Him, seeking a way to destroy Him. In response to their hostility, Jesus withdrew and continued to heal many, but He sternly warned them not to make Him known. This passage underscores the tension between Jesus’ miraculous works and His desire to fulfill a deeper purpose.
Jesus’ reluctance to be known solely through His miracles stemmed from a few key reasons. Firstly, His miracles, while significant, were never intended to function merely as spectacles for public admiration. Rather, they served as signs pointing to His identity as the Messiah and the embodiment of God’s promise. Jesus wanted to steer clear of the misinterpretation that led many to view Him only as a provider of physical healing or miraculous signs, rather than as the fulfillment of a greater divine plan for redemption.
Moreover, the mention of the prophecy in Isaiah (quoted in Matthew 12:18-21) emphasizes Jesus’ mission of justice and hope for the marginalized. The phrase “he will not quarrel or cry aloud” reflects His desire to bring about change not through forceful confrontation but through quiet, steadfast compassion. Until He fully brings about victory over injustice and sin, Jesus focused on healing the broken-hearted and offering a path for reconciliation with God, highlighting His identity as both Savior and servant.
Thus, while miracles form a crucial aspect of His ministry, Jesus sought to ensure that His true mission—bringing justice, mercy, and spiritual renewal—remained at the forefront of His identity, rather than allowing the spectacles of His miracles to overshadow the transformative message of Eternal Life by His Salvation He came to deliver. Amen.
Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.
At the Savior’s command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.
I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. **In His Name The Gentiles Will Hope**
In the streets where whispers grow,
The plot against Him starts to flow,
Pharisees conspire, hearts so cold,
In shadows deep, their plans unfold.
But Jesus walks with grace and light,
A gentle strength, a shining sight,
He knows the weight upon His soul,
Yet love and mercy were still His goal.
Heals the broken, blind, and meek,
In every touch, His heart they seek,
“Come to me,” His call resounds,
In quiet grace, the lost are found.
A bruised reed, He won’t discourage not,
A smoldering wick, He’ll not discourage to rot,
In tender care, He holds the weak,
His life a balm, His love unique.
And in Him, the nations trust,
A promise firm, a hope robust,
From distant lands to hearts nearby,
In Him, the weary learn to fly.
So let us walk in paths He laid,
Embrace the love that never fades,
For in His quiet, steadfast way,
We find our Morning Star, we greet the day. Amen.
