06-28-2026 Matthew 10 v3742 He Will Surely Not Lose His Reward
The Gospel of Matthew Chapter 10 Verse 37 thru 42
37 “Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; 38 and whoever does not take up his cross and follow after me is not worthy of me. 39 Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. 40 “Whoever receives you receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me. 41 Whoever receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and whoever receives a righteous man because he is righteous will receive a righteous man’s reward. 42 And whoever gives only a cup of cold water to one of these little ones to drink because he is a disciple—amen, I say to you, he will surely not lose his reward.”
In Matthew 10:37-42, Jesus presents a powerful challenge to His followers about the nature of love, loyalty, and what it means to be His disciple. He states, “Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.” This profound statement underscores the necessity of placing our relationship with Christ above all others, including our deepest human connections.
Jesus is not suggesting that we should neglect our families or fail to love them. Rather, He emphasizes that our love for Him must surpass every other relationship in our lives. When we choose to follow Christ, our allegiance and devotion must be rooted first in Him, our Creator, Savior, and the Holy Spirit who empowers us. Loving God above all means recognizing the source of our very existence and ultimate purpose, as He is the one who created, redeemed, and sustains us. It means placing God First.
Verses 38-39 continue this theme, highlighting that to truly follow Him, we must be ready to take up our cross — to endure trials and sacrifices in our commitment to His mission. It is through this commitment that we find true life, for Jesus assures us that “whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.” This surrender to Christ leads us to a higher calling, one that transcends earthly attachments.
In verses 40-42, Jesus promises rewards for those who receive His messengers, emphasizing the significance of every act of service rendered in His name. This passage invites us to reflect on our priorities: Are we holding on too tightly to earthly relationships at the cost of our devotion to Christ? Remember, as followers of Jesus, we must love Him more than we love anyone else. In this love lies our true fulfillment and ultimate purpose. Amen.
Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.
At the Savior’s command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.
I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. 06-28-2026 Matthew 10 v3742
**He Will Surely Not Lose His Reward**
In the heart of a world where choices collide,
Matthew speaks softly, with wisdom as his guide.
He calls us to ponder, to measure our fate,
With love and with purpose, we delve to relate.
“Whoever loves father, or mother more dear,
Than the One who has sent them, must pause and revere.
For the path of the faithful is narrow and steep,
To bear witness in love, our promises keep.
He who prefers son or daughter above,
Must rethink what it means to truly love.
For discipleship whispers of sacrifice vast,
To gather the present, we shed what has passed.
The cross is a burden, yet sweet is its claim,
For in losing our lives, we find them in His name.
Who welcomes a prophet, a righteous decree,
Welcomes the kingdom, as vast as the sea.
And he who gives water, a humble act,
To the least of the faithful, in heaven’s pact,
Will find that in kindness, eternal reward,
Unfolds like a flower, adored by the Lord.
So we walk in the light of this challenging call,
For love is the answer, encompassing all.
In the smallest of gestures, His grace we will see,
As we serve one another, we’re setting hearts free.” Amen.
