The Gospel of Matthew Chapter 10 Verse 5 thru 15
5 Jesus sent out these twelve after instructing them thus, “Do not go into pagan territory or enter a Samaritan town. 6 Go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 7 As you go, make this proclamation: ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ 8 Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, drive out demons. Without cost you have received; without cost you are to give. 9 Do not take gold or silver or copper for your belts; 10 no sack for the journey, or a second tunic, or sandals, or walking stick. The laborer deserves his keep. 11 Whatever town or village you enter, look for a worthy person in it, and stay there until you leave. 12 As you enter a house, wish it peace. 13 If the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it; if not, let your peace return to you. 14 Whoever will not receive you or listen to your words—go outside that house or town and shake the dust from your feet. 15 Amen, I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town.
Happy Memorial of Saint Barnabas; The Son of Encouragement! He was revered as one of the early companions of Saint Paul. He plays a significant role in the history of the early Church. The Catholic Church commemorates his life and contributions on June 11th each year, celebrating him as a champion of faith and a tireless missionary who worked to spread the message of Christ among both Jews and Gentiles. One interesting aspect about Barnabas, which may not be widely known, is that his original name was Joseph. The apostles gave him the nickname “Barnabas,” which means “son of encouragement,” reflecting his supportive nature and his mission to uplift and inspire others in their faith.
The connection to Matthew 10:5-13 is particularly significant for his Memorial Day, as these verses recount Jesus sending out His disciples to preach and heal, which symbolizes Barnabas’ own dedication to evangelization and spreading the Gospel. This sending forth encapsulates the essence of Barnabas’ life, as he ventured to encourage, guide, and support those in their spiritual journeys, mirroring the mission given to the apostles by Christ.
In these verses, Jesus provides specific instructions on how they should approach their mission. He emphasizes that they are to go only to the lost sheep of Israel, directing their efforts to the chosen people of God first. This reflects the strategic nature of Jesus’ ministry, highlighting the significance of reaching His own kin before extending the message to the Gentiles.
The disciples are instructed to heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, and drive out demons. This commissioning underscores the authority given to them by Jesus and emphasizes the power of faith, love, and healing as core components of their mission. It illustrates the nature of Jesus’ ministry — one of compassion and active engagement with suffering and brokenness.
Moreover, the disciples are cautioned to take no gold, silver, or copper in their belts, signifying a reliance on God and the generosity of those they encounter. This reliance on divine provision and hospitality indicates an important lesson in faith — that God will provide for their needs as they faithfully carry out His work.
Lastly, the passage closes with a stark warning about the reception they will encounter. They are told that if a town or household does not welcome them, they should shake the dust off their feet as a testimony against them. This act symbolizes the seriousness of rejecting the message of the Gospel and serves as a reminder of the consequences of unrepentance. Overall, Matthew 10:5-15 provides foundational insight into the early missions of Jesus’ followers, the nature of their ministry, and the principles of faith and reliance on God. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Ephesians 6:17-20
06-11-2026 Matthew 10 V0515
**A Call to the Chosen**
In the town of Galilee, under a sun so bright,
The Master called His twelve, to spread the truth of light.
“Go forth,” He said with purpose, “to the lost and the meek,
To Israel’s wandering children; it’s their hearts that I seek.”
“Do not go to the Gentiles, nor to Samaria’s shore,
But to the sheep of Israel, whom I love and adore.
Proclaim the kingdom’s coming, the healing of the ill,
Raise the dead, cleanse the lepers; these miracles fulfill.”
“Freely you have received, now freely give in return,
Let your hearts be full of mercy, let your passion burn.
Take no gold, no silver, just the sandals on your feet,
For the worker is worthy; trust the path that you meet.”
As they traveled, hand in hand, spreading hope through the land,
In every town and village, God’s purpose could withstand.
Wherever they were welcomed, let peace be their decree,
And where they met rejection, shake off the dust of your feet, be free.
For every humble dwelling that offered them some grace,
The blessing of the kingdom would adorn that sacred place.
In the echoes of their mission, through ages it resounds,
The love of Christ, unyielding, in every heart, is found.
So let us heed the calling, to bring forth peace and light,
To lift up the downtrodden, to chase away the night.
In every act of kindness, in every word we share,
We carry forth the message of God’s unending care. Amen.
