06-10-2026 Matthew 5 V13720 Unless Your Righteousness Surpasses
The Gospel of Matthew Chapter 5 Verse 17 thru 20
17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. 18 Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place. 19 Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do so will be called least in the kingdom of heaven. But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments will be called greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 20 I tell you, unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
In Matthew 5:17-20, Jesus emphasizes the importance of the Law and the Prophets, stating that He came not to abolish them, but to fulfill them. This pivotal passage invites us to understand the deep connection between the Old and New Testaments, revealing that Jesus embodies the very essence of God’s commandments. He reassures us that every aspect of the Law remains relevant and significant. Rather than dismissing the truths of the past, Jesus calls us to embrace them, enriching our understanding of how to live righteously.
Moreover, in verse 19, Jesus promises that those who teach and practice these commandments will be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven. This is a powerful reminder that sharing the truth of Jesus is not just a duty but a privilege and a pathway to greatness in God’s eyes. Each of us, regardless of our background or circumstances, can share the love and teachings of Christ at any time and in any place. Whether through a casual conversation, a kind act, or intentional witness, we have countless opportunities to reflect His light in a world that desperately needs it.
As we engage with others, let us remember that our role is to communicate the truth of Jesus—His grace, His mercy, and His call to righteousness. In doing so, we not only fulfill our purpose but also help others discover the transformative power of Christ. Let us be bold in our witness, for in sharing the truth, we not only uplift ourselves but also invite others into the Kingdom, where they too can stand as great before God. Amen.
Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.
At the Savior’s command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.
I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. **Unless Your Righteousness Surpasses**
In the heart of the mount, where the crowd gathered near,
A Teacher spoke words that were clear and sincere.
“Think not I’ve come to erase or defy,
But to fulfill every law, for I’m the reply.
The prophets and sages all pointed to Me,
Their whispers of hope were a promise to be.
Not a jot or a tittle will fade from the scroll,
Until heaven and earth pass, I’ll uphold every role.
For the law, oh so sacred, shall not lose its grace,
But through love and through mercy, we’ll find our true place.
Yet, heed the command that I bring to your heart:
Exceeding the scribes, let compassion impart.
For the way of the kingdom is narrow, yet wide,
Where righteousness flourishes and kindness abides.
In a world filled with shadows, let your light brightly shine,
So that others may see and know My love divine.
So strive for the goodness, the truth, and the light,
In the depths of the law, find freedom from blight.
For in living with purpose, and grace, and with zeal,
We fulfill all the promise, the mercy we feel.”
Thus, let us remember as we walk on this path,
That love is the essence that conquers all wrath.
With hearts aligned to the teachings we find,
We’re called to create with a spirit so kind. Amen.
