06-08-2026 Matthew 5 V0112 The Beatitudes Rejoice And Be Glad
The Gospel of Matthew Chapter 5 Verse One thru Twelve
1 When he saw the crowds, he went up the mountain, and after he had sat down, his disciples came to him. 2 He began to teach them, saying: 3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4 Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted. 5 Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the land. 6 Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied. 7 Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. 8 Blessed are the clean of heart, for they will see God. 9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. 10 Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you [falsely] because of me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven. Thus they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
Matthew 5:1-12 introduces the Beatitudes, a profound teaching of Jesus that underscores the values of God’s Kingdom. In these verses, Jesus blesses those who are often overlooked or marginalized by society, such as the poor in spirit, the meek, and those who hunger and thirst for righteousness. He assures them that theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.
When we stand firm in our faith, especially during times of persecution, we align ourselves with these teachings. Remember that Jesus Himself faced immense challenges, and through His trials, He demonstrated the ultimate commitment to God’s will. He reminds us that when we face insults, persecution, or false accusations for placing God first in our lives, we should rejoice and be glad. For in these moments, we are sharing in the suffering of Christ and affirming our identity as His followers.
The call to remain steadfast is not always easy, especially when the world pushes back against our beliefs. However, it is crucial to remember that our efforts to live out our faith and prioritize Jesus will not go unnoticed. Jesus promises that our reward will be great in heaven, an eternal perspective that offers hope and strength in trials.
In times of difficulty, when our faith is tested, let us focus on the greater glory that awaits us. Knowing that we are part of a divine promise can invigorate our spirits and empower us to continue witnessing to the love and grace of Jesus. As we face persecution or criticism, let’s remind ourselves and others that God sees our struggles and honors our commitment to Him. Stay steadfast and courageously proclaim Jesus as your Savior, for the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who endure. Amen.
Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.
At the Savior’s command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.

Ephesians 6:17-20

**The Beatitudes Rejoice And Be Glad**
On a hillside, the Savior spoke,
To hearts that stirred and spirits awoke.
Gathered beneath the bright, open sky,
Where the weary found hope and the lost learned to fly.
“Blessed are the poor in spirit,” Jesus said,
For theirs is the kingdom, where grace is widespread.
In the depths of their sorrow, they rise and can see,
The richness of mercy, the love that sets us free.
“Blessed are those who mourn,” He continued with care,
For comfort awaits them, a promise laid bare.
In their tears lie the seeds of a heart that will heal,
With each tender moment, God’s love they can feel.
“Blessed are the meek,” in the stillness He spoke,
With strength that is silent, like whispers of smoke.
In their gentle perseverance, they’ll inherit the earth,
A testament shining with unshakeable worth.
“Blessed are those who hunger for righteousness,”
Yearning for justice, their spirits to bless.
They’ll be filled with the truth, in their quest for true rest,
In a world often shadowed, Jesus they’ll confess.
“Blessed are the merciful,” with hearts open wide,
For mercy bestowed will in turn be their guide.
In the grace that they offer, the kindness they show,
The hands of the Savior through them surely flow.
“Blessed are the pure in heart,” so honest and clear,
With vision unclouded, they draw ever near.
For they shall see God in the beauty of life,
In each moment of stillness, beyond all the strife.
“Blessed are the peacemakers,” who sow seeds of peace,
In a world torn asunder, they seek sweet release.
For children of God, they shall stand firm and strong,
With harmony guiding a world once gone wrong.
“Blessed are those persecuted for truth’s sacred cause,
Though trials may linger, rejoice without pause.
For heaven awaits them, a crown shining bright,
In their struggle, they shine with His eternal light.”
So gather these blessings from the mountaintop air,
A reminder of love, of hope, and of care.
In each sacred word, a path we can see,
To live in His Beatitudes, to be truly set free. Amen.
