The 2nd Letter of Peter Chapter 13 Verse One thru Eleven

1 Symeon Peter, a slave and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have received a faith of equal value to ours through the righteousness of our God and savior Jesus Christ: 2 may grace and peace be yours in abundance through knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. 3 His divine power has bestowed on us everything that makes for life and devotion, through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and power. 4 Through these, he has bestowed on us the precious and very great promises, so that through them you may come to share in the divine nature, after escaping from the corruption that is in the world because of evil desire. 5 For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, virtue with knowledge, 6 knowledge with self-control, self-control with endurance, endurance with devotion, 7 devotion with mutual affection, mutual affection with love. 8 If these are yours and increase in abundance, they will keep you from being idle or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 Anyone who lacks them is blind and shortsighted, forgetful of the cleansing of his past sins. 10 Therefore, brothers, be all the more eager to make your call and election firm, for, in doing so, you will never stumble. 11 For, in this way, entry into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ will be richly provided for you.

2 Peter 1:1-11 presents a profound insight into the Christian faith, emphasizing growth in virtue and the assurance of salvation. In these verses, the Apostle Peter addresses believers, affirming that through knowledge of Jesus Christ, they can cultivate a life characterized by godliness, virtue, and fraternal love.

The phrase “you will never stumble” is typically understood within the context of spiritual growth and stability. The expectation is that by actively engaging in the qualities listed—faith, goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, mutual affection, and love—believers are equipped to withstand trials and temptations. This growth is not merely additive but transformative; as one matures in these virtues, the potential for stumbling diminishes but happens in human terms and is always forgiven.

The assurance of “never stumbling” emphasizes the security found in a steadfast relationship with Christ. It implies that continuous growth in virtues creates a solid foundation that protects against the hazards of spiritual decline. Peter encourages believers to continually reaffirm their calling and election, assuring them that by doing so, they will be granted “a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

This notion stresses the importance of perseverance and the active pursuit of holiness, suggesting that engagement in these spiritual disciplines fortifies the believer against spiritual negligence. In practical terms, this means cultivating a disciplined spiritual life through prayer, study of scripture, and community involvement. Regular reflection on these virtues allows believers to assess their spiritual condition, offering opportunities for correction and encouragement. “You will never stumble” is an assurance rooted in maturing in Christ-like character, providing both security and motivation for believers like me and you to press on in faith.

I recently told a young man that ultimately his decisions that he makes today will form responses from people tomorrow. Family, friends and foes may not be accepting of your decision, but when you accept something in the name of Jesus Christ, you live it so in 50 years from now you can say, “I told you Jesus is real and he kept what I treasure in a relationship as something very special and aligned with eternal love.” Love does that to people; forgiven let’s them live forever. Amen.

Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.

At the Savior’s command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.

I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

**Mutual Affection With Love**

In shadows deep where doubts may dwell,

Peter, the elder, has tales to tell,

Of faith so precious, a gift from above,

In grace and knowledge, we find our love.

By promise divine we’re called to His light,

Escaping the darkness, we’re made pure and bright,

Through virtue and trust, we strengthen our way,

In the power of Christ, we rise up each day.

With goodness and wisdom, we nurture our hearts,

Self-control and patience, the life-giving arts,

In kindness and love, let our spirits extend,

For in these additions, all barriers mend.

The path paved in faith, a journey we chart,

As we cloak ourselves in His warmth from the start,

For those who abide in these virtues so true,

Will never be shaken, their hope will renew.

So toil for the calling, be diligent, stand,

For faith’s rich abundance lies close at hand,

An entrance wide open awaits us above,

Where treasures eternal abound in His love.

In these sacred verses, His wisdom unfolds,

A promise of life that eternally holds,

Let us strive with fervor, embrace and believe,

For in His eternal kingdom, we shall forever receive. Amen.
