The Gospel of Mark Chapter 10 Verse 28 thru 31
28 Peter began to say to him, “We have given up everything and followed you.” 29 Jesus said, “Amen, I say to you, there is no one who has given up house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands for my sake and for the sake of the gospel 30 who will not receive a hundred times more now in this present age: houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and eternal life in the age to come. 31 But many that are first will be last, and [the] last will be first.”
In Mark 10:28-31, we find a profound exchange between Jesus and His disciples, where Peter expresses their sacrifice by leaving everything to follow Him. Jesus responds by assuring them that anyone who has left behind home, family, or possessions for His sake and the gospel will receive a hundredfold in this lifetime and eternal life in the age to come. This passage emphasizes the paradox of the Kingdom of God, where true greatness is often found in humility and service.
To be “last” in God’s eyes is not a position of inferiority but a calling to serve others. Jesus exemplified this through His life and ministry, continually prioritizing the needs of others above His own. He washed the feet of His disciples, dined with sinners, and ultimately laid down His life for humanity. Thus, to follow Christ means embracing a servant’s heart, living with the understanding that our worth is measured not by status or accolades but by how selflessly we serve those around us.
In a world that glorifies ambition and power, Jesus invites us to a counter-cultural approach. He teaches us that the first shall be last, and the last shall be first (Mark 10:31). This divine reversal calls us to assess our motives and actions. Are we striving for recognition, or are we genuinely serving others in love?
As we reflect on these verses, let us be reminded that every act of service, no matter how small, is significant in the Kingdom of God. By serving all in the name of Jesus, we participate in His transformative work on earth. May we strive to be last, recognizing that true fulfillment and joy come from lifting others up and reflecting Christ’s love in all we do. Amen.
Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.
At the Savior’s command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.
I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

**First Will Be Last and the Last Will Be First**
In the shadow of the Master’s grace,
Peter spoke with earnest face,
“Lord, we’ve left our homes behind,
For treasures in Your love we find.”
A promise echoed through the air,
“Who gives up all, to Him is fair.
For every sacrifice you bear,
A hundredfold, beyond compare.”
In fields of loss, new life will spring,
The first shall be last; the last shall be king.
With hearts unbound and spirits free,
We gain the kingdom; eternity.
Forsaking wealth and earthly ties,
In You, O Lord, our fortune lies.
Through trials faced and shadows cast,
Our faith in You, steadfast and vast.
So let us walk this road of claim,
With joy igniting the holy flame.
For those who trust in sacred heart,
Shall find their home and never part. Amen.
