Weeping by the tomb stayed Mary

11 But Mary stayed outside the tomb weeping. And as she wept, she bent over into the tomb 12 and saw two angels in white sitting there, one at the head and one at the feet where the body of Jesus had been. 13 And they said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to them, “They have taken my Lord, and I don’t know where they laid him.”14When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus there, but did not know it was Jesus. 15 Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you looking for?” She thought it was the gardener and said to him, “Sir, if you carried him away, tell me where you laid him, and I will take him.” 16 Jesus said to her, “Mary!” She turned and said to him in Hebrew, “Rabbouni,”*which means Teacher. 17 Jesus said to her, “Stop holding on to me for I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am going to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’” 18 Mary of Magdala went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord,” and what he told her. John 20:11-18

I remember when I first lost my grandfather knowing that I would never see him again clinging to the thoughts of his roughness and his ability to live off the land being a farmer and gardener in Georgia that always amazed me with his yellow watermelons. They really call them orange melons and they were so sweet and delicious yet I don’t see them in stores nowadays but in different places you can find them throughout the country by some people who like to grow them. It’s difficult to let go of someone you love knowing only the memory is something that you will be able to carry maybe in a sweater or piece of clothing that they may have worn as much as the plants that they left behind in the gardens they cultivated where roses and flowers or vegetables and fruit that always made your day when you went to see him and pick them right from the plant.

Jesus was a gardener that Mary called out to recognizing him by his voice and his knowledge of her name giving her hope that Jesus had risen as he had predicted. She would run back to the disciples as we run back to our homes to tell our friends and our family that’s such a great person has given their life to make us feel better similar to Jesus each and every day when we practice, pray and proclaim what he means to humanities Salvation. This nurtured feeling is where we find we can’t hold onto something that’s not physically there but we can begin to understand the mystery labeled in the Word of God as an opportunity to share love, faith and hope of Redemption. Amen.

Join us in our daily prayer of forgiveness. I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and Rose for me. Novena Day Four for John Cruz. IN Jesus Name. Amen.
