To Follow beyond every demand.

Teacher, I will follow You wherever You go.  Matthew 8:19b

Amos 2:6-10, 13-16, Psalm 50 & Matthew 8:18-22

We learn the difficulty of saying “yes” to Christ above every demand we ever place on ourselves today when Jesus tells a Scribe who asks to follow Him wherever He goes, “Foxes have dens and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to rest His head.” Matthew 8:20 This reality of serving Christ means roughing it was a normal day-to-day occurrence is then pounded into our subconscious by Jesus when He tells another who exclaims, “LORD, Let me first bury my father” as Jesus retorts “Follow me, and let the dead bury their dead.”

This demand by Jesus points to the Authority given to Him that overrides what both the Jewish and the Hellenistic world regarded as a filial obligation of the highest importance. The word “filial” is a virtue of respect for one’s parents and ancestors that obligated you to carry out the final order of laying a parent to rest. Jesus is explaining by this statement that following Him allows the spiritually dead (those who do not follow) bury their physically dead. No matter what situation you find yourself in, when you place God First you allow His Graces to flow in honorable proportions throughout every aspect of your being. In a sense, you are saying to Christ, “Teacher, I will follow You wherever You go.” Amen.

I love to witness Christ’s passion in complete strangers allowing me to interject the beauty of anyone praying to our God in the public’s eye. In fact, I pray people will begin to see the importance of giving “thanks” to God openly in public encourages the revision of values, truths and principals our dear land was formed by. I met a couple yesterday in a restaurant that was praying over their meal and I commented how beautiful it was to see their open adoration of God. They were young and energetic giving permission to the discussion of our LORD being more important than anything else. They were placing “God First” and confidently displaying the “Swagger of Truth.” God Bless ‘em for loving our Savior so much. Thank God they follow Jesus above every demand. Amen.

In prayer we ask, Dear LORD, we pray today to follow when the road gets rough. We pray to swallow the pills of dust. We pray to gather to teach people to trust. We pray to abstain from Satan’s ugly fuss. We pray for our son Julian as he is operated on today. We pray for strength as the parents who resoundly stay by his side in the hospital no matter where he may lay. We pray the fatigue never waivers our Trust in You each day. We pray for the prayer warriors worldwide who pray for the unknown child to stay. We pray for the new job to comes Terry’s way. We pray to love Jesus each and every way. In His Precious Name we dare to say. Amen.

Mask Removed eliminates ControlIn honor of Carlos Andres Chase-Ramirez

I was raised as an elite

Brought to my knees by fate

Controlled to homeless to make

Life’s torments to taste

My mask is in layers of control

As rose pedals relate to sow

Covering the shame to stand and grow

Alone in God’s Holy fate to know

Turning to His Word I sought

Open forgiveness proven not bought

Cleansed by wisdom’s Psalm forgot

The 51st song of Spirit’s magical lot

Willing or unwilling to be

Your parents are handed by He

Not knowing what I’ll see

Removing the mask setting me free
