Love number three distressed Peter
15 When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed my lambs.” 16 He then said to him a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Tend my sheep.” 17 He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was distressed that he had said to him a third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” [Jesus] said to him, “Feed my sheep. John 21:15-17
We often wonder ourselves why Jesus would ask us over and over again in the depths of problems no matter what they might be why you would say to us, “do you love me?” We think that he would know everything about us and yet he does when we believe that taking fences He asks us to jump are sending devastating types of hurdles to climb in the way of overcoming ugliness of self putting more emphasis in life on the sheep that he asked us all to feed. To nourish his sheep we must surrender a different aspect of life where we run not away from those who need to be held but ask them how we can be more than a talk but a financial opportunity to overcome their distress. Amen.
