THE GOSPEL OF LUKE CHAPTER 10 25 THRU 28
25 There was a scholar of the law who stood up to test him and said, “Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” 26 Jesus said to him, “What is written in the law? How do you read it?” 27 He said in reply, “You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your being, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.” 28 He replied to him, “You have answered correctly; do this and you will live.”
What do you call the middle century children born 10 years before or 10 years after 1950? We can’t call them Depression Kids because they lived after the great depression. Do we call them the Victor Kids because the world’s men and women returned from World War II winners? Or maybe we can call them the Sock Hop Kids? Isn’t that the era of hot rods and dancing teen-agers? I wonder today if a man explained how simple and rambunctious children were when they grew up not worrying about GMO’s but real survival in a small-town farm driven daily life of existence in Ireland.
Let’s just call this person someone who found the calling to serve. He didn’t want to come to America and get filthy rich. No. He came to America to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. He wore a collar placing a target on his chest while nurturing children as principal and confessor and all who sought his guidance as pastor and friend. He knew what it meant by life eternal being inherited by the acts of love, faith and hope of Redemption where he correctly answered the call of being the international neighbor where loving thy neighbor is given by his entire being his entire life.
Served more than twice the time he spent here 20 years has gone by and I’ve only been around for 12 of them. But what I’ve seen of this Fisher of Men who became all that Christ asked him to be, Father James McCrenor we sure are going to miss you and will always welcome you home. Your Irish twang in a homily of Truth pushing people known and unknown to live in the spirit of youth surrendering to Christ in charities use. This is you. You answered correctly Jim. Thank you. Amen.
