Jesus asked a third time, ‘Do you love Me? and (Peter) said, ‘LORD, You know everything; You know I love you.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Feed my sheep.’ John 21:17d

Acts 25:13-21, Psalm 103 & John 21:15-19

If Jesus asked you three times in a row if you love Him, you’d be downcast too as Peter was when he answered repeatedly, “Yes, LORD, you know I love you. Yes, LORD, you know I love you. LORD, You know everything; You know I love you.” Jesus appears to be asking Peter to rebuke his earlier denial of Christ three times by saying he loves Him three times in a row.

Jesus is obviously appointing Peter the head of His Church to guide His flock to maturity giving Peter forgiveness of his earlier denial of him after his arrest. Why did Jesus appoint the man who denied Him the leader of His Church? I believe in my heart Peter was appointed as the Rock the Church would be built on because Jesus knew Peter would not deny Him again and had confidence in Peter to proclaim the Gospel with fervor.

Is there someone you have denied love more than just three times and realized later you were misguided and truly love that person more than you thought? Where and how can you make up for ugliness and sin against anyone you know you have wronged? The answer is very simple and that’s by simply asking for forgiveness and seeking to follow God’s Word of feeding His Sheep.

In focusing on feeding the sheep of God and placing God first I everything you do, you will find His love more abundant in the small things that make up for the big mistakes made in acts if sin. Seek to share the God’s Truth with people and walk and talk of His Redemption. This takes time and only God knows the hour and time of true forgiveness by someone you may have hurt with repeated disrespect.

Be diligent in knowing His Way and finding people to share faith, charity and love. God’s forgiveness is immediate. Mortal forgiveness sometimes takes years. In your surrender, find time as no object and know God will soften the heart of anyone you may have hurt by practice, prayer and preaching. Amen.

Dear LORD, we pray to focus on Christ’s love in everything we do knowing His forgiveness is everlasting. We pray LORD we feed Your sheep with faith, charity and love. In Jesus Name we pray. Amen.
