Is it not sharing your bread with the hungry, bringing the afflicted and the homeless into your house; Clothing the naked when you see them, and not turning your back on your own flesh? Isaiah 58:7

Is it not sharing your bread with the hungry, bringing the afflicted and the homeless into your house; Clothing the naked when you see them, and not turning your back on your own flesh? Isaiah 58:7

Isaiah 58:1-9a, Psalm 51 & Matthew 9:14-15

What does true fasting mean to you? How can each of us in our fast truly make a difference in our world today? The words of Isaiah bring home what it means to fast and this fast is universal across all lines of religion to share the love of Jesus Christ with total strangers to accomplish the Will of God in our families, our societies and our world. You must seek out in your fast the less fortunate who have nothing and give until it hurts. Does your fasting hurt? The really down deep good feeling hurt? If not, then ask yourself “What can I do to fast in His Truth to give more?”

Yesterday during my lunch hour I took a moment to stop by a homeless camp to clothe the naked and feed the hungry. As I pulled up, I could hear them yell out its Thomas with his “Trunk of Comfort.” Smiling as I exited my car, I asked if anyone could use a good pair of University of Miami shorts and t-shirt. A man named J.B. smiled showing his missing teeth said, “that’s my team.” I turned to him with the clothes in hand and open my arms up to hug his tall lanky body saying, “God loves you and so do I.” The lady who lives with them there who also grew up here in Miami said to me, “I’m hungry Thomas. I haven’t eaten in two days.” I asked her what she’d like to eat and she replied, “a chicken sandwich from McDonalds.” Within ten minutes I was dropping off a bag of chicken sandwiches, fries and sweet tea to feed everyone who was there each of them wearing a clean t-shirt. Her tears described her elation as God illuminated my heart and soul with His Spirit as I parted saying, “God Bless you all.”

In the Holy Trinity we pray to fast until it hurts to share Your glory LORD. We pray for a young man named Walker Brown. We pray for the healing of Joe Montalbano. We pray for “40 Days of Life” to close abortion clinics. We pray for the Emmaus Team in NJ. We pray for LIFE FM. We pray for all people. In Jesus Name we pray. Amen.

Take Up a Fast to Honor God in Love to Restore- Isaiah 58:6-12

How can we fast to find His blessing?

Release our fear to find the best thing

God has for those who aren’t skimping

Feeding the homeless and clothing the naked

The Light of Christ in you breaks forth

All wounds shall feel healing

The vindication of Truth to use

The glory of God in your soul a feeling

Then know God will hear your prayer and needs

By giving more than you think to believe

His Truth will guide you to know His Decrees

Void of malicious thoughts, ugliness and greed

If you lavish your food on the hungry and poor

The afflicted satisfied to right the score

Your Light will shine by His Truth to adore

Spring waters to flow leading to Heaven’s door

Hey Laina! You are such an A-mayes-ing woman of God! I love you and what you stand for. You are loving, cinarg, giving, intelligent, spiritual, respectful and I could go on and on. Just thought I’d stop by to tell you again how much I appreciate you. I log on occasionally to read your blog and today really caused me to pause and really think about Thy will be done . Thanks for that Laina! There have been several situations in my life and some that stand out more than others when God demonstrated His will and I had to pray for peace, acceptance and obedience. I was in agreement with the outcome of some situations and some I was not, but as we know, God does not need permission. I have to tell you though, reading this has taken my focus on that phrase Thy will be done to a higher level of understanding and acceptance. Thank you for your ministry through your struggle Laina!! I continue to pray for you, TC and your journey. I’m praying that God’s will be done and hopeful that His will is for you and TC to conceive and have lots of little mayes-es !!
