The Acts of the Apostles Chapter 6 Verse One thru Seven
1 At that time, as the number of disciples continued to grow, the Hellenists complained against the Hebrews because their widows were being neglected in the daily distribution. 2 So the Twelve called together the community of the disciples and said, “It is not right for us to neglect the word of God to serve at table. 3 Brothers, select from among you seven reputable men, filled with the Spirit and wisdom, whom we shall appoint to this task, 4 whereas we shall devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.” 5 The proposal was acceptable to the whole community, so they chose Stephen, a man filled with faith and the holy Spirit, also Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicholas of Antioch, a convert to Judaism. 6 They presented these men to the apostles who prayed and laid hands on them. 7 The word of God continued to spread, and the number of the disciples in Jerusalem increased greatly; even a large group of priests were becoming obedient to the faith.
Acts 6:1-7 presents a pivotal moment in the early Church, highlighting both the challenges and the divine response to the needs of the growing Christian community. As the disciples faced complaints regarding the distribution of aid to widows, they recognized the necessity of addressing these practical concerns without losing focus on their primary mission: the preaching of the Word of God. By appointing seven deacons to handle the distribution, they ensured that both physical and spiritual needs were met, allowing the apostles to dedicate themselves to prayer and ministry.
This Scripture resonates profoundly today, as we witness a similar movement of growth and needs within the modern Church. Despite the complexities and distractions of contemporary society, the message of Christ continues to spread, capturing the hearts of countless individuals. Every day, people from diverse backgrounds are discovering their need for Jesus, and the number of disciples around the world is increasing.
The young generation, in particular, is awakening to the profound truths of the Gospel, recognizing that life devoid of purpose can only be fulfilled through a relationship with Jesus Christ. They are seeking authenticity, hope, and love—elements that can only be found in Him. As they turn to the Scriptures, they are discovering the transformative power of God’s Word, just as those early believers did.
In this age of digital connectivity and social awareness, the Church has an unprecedented opportunity to share the message of hope. Just as the early disciples adapted to their challenges and committed themselves to the mission, we too are called to be diligent and innovative in spreading the Gospel. Together, as the Body of Christ, we can nurture a vibrant faith that draws in the lost and strengthens the faithful. Amen!
Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.
At the Savior’s command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.
I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

**The Word Of God Continued To Spread**
In days of old, when the sun was bright,
A growing flock took its wondrous flight,
Yet as they soared, a shadow fell,
Within their midst, a tale to tell.
The Hellenists cried, their voices raised,
Against the Hebraic, their hearts appraised,
A rift had formed, in a sacred space,
As the daily needs left some in disgrace.
The widows wept, their plight was real,
Yet the Twelve were stirred, a sense to feel,
They gathered the brethren, the faithful out,
To seek a solution, to quell the doubt.
“Not fitting for us,” the Apostles declared,
“To leave the Word, while the hungry are bared.
Let’s choose from among us, seven men true,
Full of the Spirit, wisdom deaconate anew.”
Thus they called forth, names did ring,
Stephen, Philip, and others to bring,
Laid hands upon them, a blessing bestowed,
Now love could flourish, as unity flowed.
The Word increased, the message spread wide,
As grace and faith became their guide,
With hearts united in purpose and deed,
In those early days, they planted the seed.
So let us remember, this tale of old,
Of service and care, of love untold,
Deacons sharing, the kindness we show,
In every community, God’s love will grow. Amen.
