01-01-2026 Luke 2 v1521 The Name Given Him By The Angel
The Gospel of Luke Chapter 2 Verse 15 thru 21
15 When the angels went away from them to heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go, then, to Bethlehem to see this thing that has taken place, which the Lord has made known to us.” 16 So they went in haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the infant lying in the manger. 17 When they saw this, they made known the message that had been told them about this child. 18 All who heard it were amazed by what had been told them by the shepherds. 19 And Mary kept all these things, reflecting on them in her heart. 20 Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, just as it had been told to them. 21 When eight days were completed for his circumcision, he was named Jesus, the name given him by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.
Luke 2:15-21 recounts the profound moments following the birth of Jesus. After the angels announced His birth to the shepherds, the shepherds hurried to Bethlehem, finding Mary and Joseph and the newborn Savior. They joyfully shared the angelic message, marveling at God’s fulfillment of promise. This passage culminates in a beautiful moment of naming the child Jesus, as instructed by the angel before His conception, emphasizing His divine purpose and identity.
The celebration of the Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God, falls on January 1st each year, coinciding with the Octave Day of the Nativity of the Lord. This feast day honors Mary’s significant role in the Christian faith as the mother of Jesus Christ. By recognizing her as the Holy Mother of God, the Church affirms the truth of both Christ’s divinity and humanity, highlighting Mary’s unique part in salvation history. This solemnity emphasizes not only her role as a maternal figure but also her unwavering faith and obedience to God’s plan.
The Octave Day of the Nativity of the Lord marks the eighth day after Christmas, a time when the Church reflects on the mystery of the Incarnation as it begins a new calendar year. Traditionally, it concludes the festive Christmas season with a focus on the redeeming nature of Christ’s birth. This practice of observing an octave highlights the importance of profound spiritual mysteries, inviting the faithful to deepen their understanding and appreciation of the Nativity.
In celebrating these holy days, the Church encourages reflection on Mary’s pivotal role and the joyous event of Jesus’ birth, urging believers to embrace the blessings of motherhood, unity, and hope for the year ahead. Amen.
Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.
At the Savior’s command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.

Ephesians 6:17-20
01-01-2026 Luke 2 v1521
**The Name Given Him By The Angel**
In fields where night wrapped the earth in stillness,
Shepherds watched o’er their flocks with keen awareness.
An angel’s message broke the tranquil air,
“Fear not,” it said, “for glad tidings are here to share.”
A Savior born in David’s town, so bright,
Wrapped in swaddling, a guiding star of light.
With haste they traveled to the humble stall,
Where hope incarnate lay—God’s gift to all.
They found the child, and with hearts full of grace,
They marveled at love incarnate’s embrace.
The shepherds spoke of all they had been shown,
Of glory in the heavens, to the world now known.
As the days rolled on, on the eighth, they came,
To mark Him with a name, a legacy to claim.
Jesus, they called Him, divine and so dear,
The promise fulfilled, God’s love made clear.
In every heart, the echo remains,
Of that holy night and the joy it sustains.
For in the whispers of angels’ song,
Lives the truth that to love is to truly belong. Amen.
