The Gospel of John Eight 48 thru 51

48 The Jews answered and said to him, “Are we not right in saying that you are a Samaritan and are possessed?”49 Jesus answered, “I am not possessed; I honor my Father, but you dishonor me. 50 I do not seek my own glory; there is one who seeks it and he is the one who judges. 51 Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever keeps my word will never see death.”

I had an experience the other day that makes me want to share because I honked at a man (named Larry) who had an old Chevrolet truck telling him that I liked the way it looked. Not that it was an real old truck for it had been built in 1980 which happens to be the year I graduated from high school. It took me a couple of years to find my way into the Navy and into a life of fright never having the Lord on my side not asking nor seeking his way but I lived an experience in the military that changed my life forever. Something I kept to myself for a long long time not wanting to go over the shame that many a doctor labeled as trauma.

Death is something I sought continuously either by using drugs excessively or drinking and driving as much as being promiscuous in every aspect not judging between boy or a girl. The experience led me to find the Lord in the gutters of disrespect ending a marriage two times over living homeless jobless and carless running to the Army of Salvation anew after a failed suicide attempt. I felt nothing because I didn’t want anyone to ever know what had taken place with me and to this day I describe it only as a life altering event. Before Christ I didn’t understand the statement of our Lord and Savior, “Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever keeps my word will never see death.” Back to the man named Larry.

Larry pulled over when I stopped to get gas. He was turning 68 that day and when I learned this I sang him happy birthday. He witnessed immediately to me reflecting on my trucks window that says, “God First ALL else will fall into place.” Then he said it, “I lost death when I took him first over all else. Thanks. What a birthday affirmation.” I’ve been reflecting on this verse for a few days and this complete stranger reminds me of an absolute truth; You will never see death. This is the beauty of our God. All else doesn’t matter. Make up your own unique sign for your car and find peace with mankind. Amen.

Join us in our daily prayer of forgiveness. I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Prayers for our son Gabriel and Allen Thomas Wiggins. Prayers for Dr. Cruz-Peluca.
