Day 7 of Congress Walking Cruz-Wiggins Petition Drive began today on the outskirts of Tavernier at Mile Marker 93 and continued through to Mile Marker 100 in Key Largo. Yay, 100 MILES. Goal one accomplished. Today I decided to walk against the traffic flow
Walking Against the Traffic
of US 1 so I could wave at the oncoming cars and salute the passerby’s of police officers, semi-trucks and obvious working class vans to give recognition of their service to our country as everyday hardworking Americans who help make our country what it is today.
Saluting Hardworking Americans
This salute is full military salute where I come to attention and give a stiff salute in honor of their contribution to the working class of America. Today I also experienced a motor cycle police officer who I saluted as I approached him as he was writing a person a ticket of some sort. He reminded me he was in a traffic stop and stated “keep moving” as I walked up to him carrying a 15 foot flag pole. “Yes sir,” I said, stating, “please know I pray for all police officers everyday for your protection and safety,” as I walked passed by admiring his new BMW street bike. I thought, “Wow, a BMW, I always thought all motorcycle cops drove a Harley,” laughing to myself..

I continued on finally taking a break at the Key Lime Tree where the owner John McCarthy and I had a discussion about the Second Amendment which as many of you know is the Right to Bear Arms. He was gracious enough to sign a petition for me and allowed me to cool off in his air conditioned gift store that he said he had owned for 11 years. His store is impressive place full of different Key Lime items and souvenirs of the Keys well worth the stop if you get a chance to stop in there at Mile Marker 95. As I left his store, I met a Disabled American Veteran who I saluted for his military service and spoke to for some time discussing everything from term limits to VA benefits. Injured in the war of Vietnam, I prayed with him and thanked him for his dedication to America.

I then continued my route north along the Overseas Highway coming across Harriet’s Restaurant where I noticed at least 9 or so kids come out of the restaurant with their parents. They stated they were from Texas and Georgia and I asked them to pray for me as I try and take an everyday American back to Washington. I mentioned the kids might like to follow me on the internet through my campaign website BLOG and as I held up my information cards, many of the kids reached out to get one. One of the moms asked, “Can I take a picture of you and the kids?” I replied, “of course” and we stood together with about 7 or so kids and smiled. I waved goodbye and asked, “Please pray for me.”

Today reaching the 100 Mile Milestone in Key Largo was a huge feeling of accomplishment and put a smile on my face as I approached the Mile Marker 100. I plan on spending the rest of the week walking Key Largo in its entirety and then walking the neighborhoods of Key Largo early next week. I should be into Florida City by Tuesday and through Homestead by Wednesday. The seven miles I covered today gave me a lot of time to think about why I was walking. It has become clear to me my country means that much to me and people everywhere gave me feelings of doing what America needs; involvement by the working class instead of allowing the wealthy to crate laws for the people who they are disconnected with.
