Day 8 of Congress Walking Cruz-Wiggins Petition Drive from MM100 to MM103

Categories: Campaign Blog Archive from 2012 run for Congress

My Congress Walking Cruz-Wiggins Petition Drive began today at Mile marker 100 in 92 degree heat in Key Largo on the South Side of the Overseas Highway. Once again I decided to walk North facing the traffic so I can keep an eye on what’s coming at me as well as be able to wave and salute passerbies. As I arrived there this morning, I hugged the 100 mile marker rejoicing I had made it this far and spent a moment in prayer to be thankful for God’s graces and protection throughout the Keys.

I want to acknowledge today a couple of people who are supporting me tremendously with prayer and effort and that’s my wife Toni and my driver Aaron Kuehne. Toni has been tirelessly spending her lunch in prayer asking God to protect us both and being very patient with sore muscles and a tired body when I come home from walking each day. She’s the best wife a guy could ask for and my soul-mate in Christ. Aaron has been an angel sent by God to help me with everything from walking along side of me to driving the pace car and waiting patiently each mile I walk to give me water as I make each and every mile. A God-send with the patience of a Saint. Thank you both for your love and support.

As I walked along today, I came across a tribute sign for an accident victim that I’m sure many of you have seen the state erects for those who have been killed in a car accident. Today I was brought to tears and my knees as I approached one with an American Flag waving at about Mile Mark103 with the name Deputy Mellissa J. Powers. In my research I learned Deputy Melissa J. Powers was killed in a single vehicle automobile accident on U.S. 1 at approximately 10:30 pm. on June 22, 2010. My body is now completely filled with God Bumps as I realize she died exactly one year ago today.

Dear Melissa J. Powers , you don’t know me but I kneeled before your flag of honor today and cried, prayed and lifted your soul up to God above. As I post a picture of your Roadside Memorial and a picture of you, may the people who read about you today and from now on pray for your soul and salute your service as I did today on my knees from the accident location. I pray for your husband and child’s peace that you left behind. May your soul of a faithful departed rest in peace from the mercy of God. In Honor, I Salute Your Service to Monroe County and the people of the Florida Keys. Yours in Christ, Thomas Joe Cruz-Wiggins, June 22, 2011 @ 1:21 PM EST
Finally, I reached Mile Marker 103 today fingers numb from whipping winds and soul aching for a fallen hero. I want to thank those of you who honk your horn and wave as I walk our great district to bring about Truth to an everyday American’s desire to do something for his country and the people of his home state. Each wave, each blow of your horn, lifts my spirits and helps me keep Congress Walking for Truth. May God Bless America and each one of you. TJCW

    Mr Cruz-Wiggins;

    I just wanted to take a moment and thank you for honoring my daughter, Deputy Sheriff Melissa J Powers. SHe was truly a remarkable person and loved by everyone that knew her; her love of life was contagious and her love of family a blessing to us all. She performed her job every day with a sense of honor; it was not just a job for her. We miss her every single day and know that God has a very special angel with him; and to help heal our hearts, he gave us this incredible little girl who is her daughter and is her mama all over again. Again, thank you for paying tribute her our angel and may God bless you in your travels.

      Your daughter will remain in my prayers always. Where is her memorial? Can my wife and I stop and pray there to honor her life?

      God Bless You always,
      Thomas

    You are always welcome to stop and visit her memorial; it is located at a place very dear to her heart. Her dad owns a wildlife refuge in Homestead, Florida called the Everglades outpost; Misty always had a great love of animals and spent alot of time tgere helping care for them. A few months before her accident you told her Dad that she had a vision of a waterfall with a natural pool of water in the middle of the refuge..when we lost Misty we thought that that would be the perfect place for her to rest; as it turns out it is the most peaceful, beautiful spot that her Dad spent hundreds of hours building; it is truly a labor of love and we all feel Misty there. So please, feel free to stop by, there is a website for the outpost and it will give you directions.

      I stopped by Friday. I met Autumn. They took me to the garden waterfall. Peaceful. I write a daily Scripture study I share with people and I shared my prayers there. You can see it by clicking on the Wig’s Word of God Today Scripture Discernement and Poetry dated 2-18-2012. My poem today is specifically for Autumn and your family. Please know I’ll be stopping by there to pray if that’s ok ever so often.

      Take care and God Bless,
      Thomas

    I will stop by. I visit the prison as a ministry once a month and I attend Sacred Heart close to there too. My wife and I will be praying there soon.

    God Bless,
    Thomas
