Bethesda porticoes cripples gate
The Gospel of John Four 46 thru 54
1 After this, there was a feast of
the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 2 Now there is in Jerusalem at the
Sheep [Gate] a pool called in Hebrew Bethesda, with five porticoes. 3 In these
lay a large number of ill, blind, lame, and crippled. 4 * 5 One man was there who had been ill for thirty-eight years. 6 When
Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had been ill for a long time, he
said to him, “Do you want to be well?” 7 The sick man answered him, “Sir, I
have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; while I am on
my way, someone else gets down there before me.” 8 Jesus said to him, “Rise,
take up your mat, and walk.” 9 Immediately the man became well, took up his
mat, and walked.
* [5:4] Toward the end of the second century in the West and
among the fourth-century Greek Fathers, an additional verse was known: “For
[from time to time]
an angel of the Lord used to come down into the pool; and
the water was stirred up, so the first one to get in [after the stirring of the
water] was healed of whatever disease afflicted him.” The angel was a popular
explanation of the turbulence and the healing powers attributed to it. This
verse is missing from all early Greek manuscripts and the earliest versions,
including the original Vulgate. Its vocabulary is markedly non-Johannine.
Our time is not our own. We find relief in obstacles shown.
Not by theory do we come to condone. We laugh at others plight unknown.
Thirty-eight years have come and gone most of us seeing many lights of dawn yet
we walk right past what others have done without rhyme or reason as they sleep
in the sun. One homeless certainly may be here in his right to overcome fear by
the world in every aspect of might lived fearless with only effort to give. Yet
we can share the healing of spite by walking with our eyes as the Light.
This illumination of others is where God asks us to go. Not
fearing the thoughts of people others call our foes. We must acknowledge them
in love God wants us to show trying not to get ugly or lose our cookies as some
sort of planned show. No. Give them your cakes and meats too or maybe a vegetable
with protein a stew. This is how we help others not just in the pews but on the
beat of every street in our rearview. Park and walk what eyes construe where Jesus
is calling by the walk we learn to never undue. Amen.
Join us in our daily prayer of forgiveness. I am sorry Lord.
I believe You died and rose for me. Prayer intentions. Prayers for our son
Gabriel and Allen Thomas Wiggins. Prayers for Dr. Cruz-Peluca. Silence for the
prayers of others. CORO-19 prayers globally. Holy Spirit and St Joseph CC &
