The Gospel of John 19 38 thru 42
38 After this, Joseph of Arimathea, secretly a disciple of Jesus for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate if he could remove the body of Jesus. And Pilate permitted it. So he came and took his body. 39 Nicodemus, the one who had first come to him at night, also came bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes weighing about one hundred pounds. 40 They took the body of Jesus and bound it with burial cloths along with the spices, according to the Jewish burial custom. 41 Now in the place where he had been crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had yet been buried. 42 So they laid Jesus there because of the Jewish preparation day; for the tomb was close by.
We end chapter 19 today with Joseph of Arimathea receiving permission from Pilate to remove Jesus’s body as another secret disciple in Nicodemus came to the rescue carrying heavy aloes and spices and burial raps to secure their friend in deaths final location. They both as all the disciples wanted to be apart of salvation where there was only one that could fulfill this task and like you and me they had to be a part of him once they learned what eternal life meant for humanity. They remain secret because of the Jews who wanted to persecute those who decided to become a follower of Jesus. Today seems no less where either you are persecuted directly or indirectly you have to get off the fence and make a choice to follow the law or to break the law only you can make that decision but in Christ he will give you a reason to remain blemish free a disciple yourself helping those to understand what it means to live redeemed. Jesus. Jesus. Jesus. Amen.
