The Gospel of John Chapter 6 v-60 thru 71

60 Then many of his disciples who were listening said, “This saying is hard; who can accept it?” 61 Since Jesus knew that his disciples were murmuring about this, he said to them, “Does this shock you? 62 What if you were to see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before? 63 It is the spirit that gives life, while the flesh is of no avail. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and life. 64 But there are some of you who do not believe.” Jesus knew from the beginning the ones who would not believe and the one who would betray him. 65 And he said, “For this reason I have told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by my Father.” 66 As a result of this, many [of] his disciples returned to their former way of life and no longer accompanied him. 67 Jesus then said to the Twelve, “Do you also want to leave?” 68 Simon Peter answered him, “Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. 69 We have come to believe and are convinced that you are the Holy One of God.” 70 Jesus answered them, “Did I not choose you twelve? Yet is not one of you a devil?” 71 He was referring to Judas, son of Simon the Iscariot; it was he who would betray him, one of the Twelve.

In today’s Gospel of John 6:60-71, many of Jesus’ disciples struggled with His teaching about eating His flesh and drinking His blood, which they found difficult to accept. This teaching was a metaphorical way of describing the deep, personal relationship that believers must have with Him, symbolizing the need to fully partake in His life and sacrifice.

When Jesus made this statement, it was shocking and provocative, as it seemed to imply a form of cannibalism, which would be offensive to Jewish dietary laws and sensibilities. The disciples who left likely did so because they could not comprehend the spiritual significance behind His words and were unable to reconcile His teaching with their understanding of the Messiah.

The Twelve apostles, however, remained with Jesus, as they had a deeper faith and understanding of who He was. Peter’s response in verse 68, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life,” reflects their recognition of Jesus’ authority and the belief that He held the key to eternal life, even if they did not fully understand the implications of His teaching at that moment.

This passage highlights the theme of faith and the challenge of accepting difficult spiritual truths. It also demonstrates that true discipleship may require grappling with complex teachings and maintaining faith even when understanding is not complete. If you can allow faith to bring you closer to Jesus, you too can find the words of Eternal Life. Amen.

Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.

At the Savior’s command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and for ever. Amen.

I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

08-25-2024 John 6 V-6071

**The Holy One of God**

In whispers soft, the murmurs rise,

As hearts are torn and doubts arise,

“Who can accept this solemn word,

Of flesh and blood, so deeply stirred?”

The crowd, once eager, now turned away,

Their faith faltered, led astray.

For how could one, a humble man,

Claim life eternal with such a plan?

Yet in the Twelve, a bond held tight,

Through shadows deep, they found the light.

Though questions lingered, and answers seemed far,

They clung to Him, their guiding star.

“Lord, to whom shall we now go?

You alone, our hearts do know.

In You, the words of life reside,

In Your embrace, we will abide.”

The bread of heaven, the cup of grace,

In Him they found their resting place.

For those who stay, through trials and strife,

Discover the depths of eternal life.

So let us ponder, in faith stand firm,

In the face of doubt, let our hearts affirm,

For in the mystery of His love profound,

In Christ alone, our hope is found.  Amen.
