08-18-2024 John 6 V-5157&6466 I Am the Bread of Life but some do not believe
The Book of John 6 v-51 thru 57 & 64 thru 66
51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.” 52 The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us [his] flesh to eat?” 53 Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you. 54 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. 55 For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. 56 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him. 57 Just as the living Father sent me and I have life because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on me will have life because of me.
64 But there are some of you who do not believe.” Jesus knew from the beginning the ones who would not believe and the one who would betray him. 65 And he said, “For this reason I have told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by my Father.” 66 As a result of this, many [of] his disciples returned to their former way of life and no longer accompanied him.
John 6:51-66 is a pivotal passage in the Gospel of John, where Jesus presents Himself as the “bread of life.” In verses 51-54, He declares that those who eat His flesh and drink His blood will have eternal life, a metaphor for the deep spiritual nourishment and communion He offers. This radical statement provokes confusion and offense among His listeners, many of whom struggle to accept the idea of consuming His flesh.
The reaction of the crowd highlights a critical theme in the passage: the consequences of disbelief. In verse 60, many of His disciples express their dismay, saying, “This is a hard teaching; who can accept it?” Their inability to grasp the spiritual significance of Jesus’ words leads them to turn away. In verses 66-67, the narrative culminates in many disciples abandoning Him, prompting Jesus to ask the twelve, “You do not want to leave too, do you?”
This passage illustrates that disbelief distances individuals from the life-giving relationship with Christ. When people reject His teachings, they miss out on the profound truths of salvation and eternal life He offers. The act of turning away signifies a choice—one that leads to spiritual emptiness and separation from God. Conversely, belief in Christ invites transformation, communion, and sustenance for the soul.
The message is clear: rejecting the invitation to partake in the life of Christ results in spiritual hunger and existential despair. In a broader sense, John 6:51-66 serves as a reminder of the importance of faith and the willingness to embrace the mystery of divine truth, even when it challenges our understanding. Ultimately, it underscores the invitation to trust in Jesus as the source of true life and fulfillment. Amen.
Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.
At the Savior’s command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and for ever. Amen.
I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Ephesians 6:17-20
08-18-2024 John 6 V-5157 & 6466
**I Am the Bread of Life**
In the crowd, a whisper stirs,
A tale of bread, of flesh, of words,
“Eat my flesh, drink my blood,” He calls,
A mystery deep, that baffles all.
The Bread of Life, sent from above,
A gift of grace, a sign of love.
Yet hearts grow heavy, thoughts entwined,
In disbelief, they seek to find.
“This teaching’s hard, who can believe?”
They turn away, their hearts deceive.
A choice is made, the path is clear,
To walk away, to live in fear.
But those who dare to taste and see,
Embrace the truth, set spirits free.
In Him, the promise of life unfolds,
A treasure greater than the purest of gold.
“Will you leave too?” He asks the Twelve,
With faith renewed, they find themselves.
“Where else to go? You hold the key,
To words of life, and eternity.”
In shadows cast by doubt and strife,
The call remains—take in this life.
For in each morsel, grace bestowed,
A journey shared, a love that flowed.
So let us come, with open hearts,
To feast on Him, where hope imparts.
In every crumb, in every sip,
The Bread of Life, our spirits fit. Amen.
