The Book of Sirach Ch Six v- 32 thru 34

32 If you wish, my son, you can be wise; if you apply yourself, you can be shrewd. 33 If you are willing to listen, you can learn; if you pay attention, you can be instructed. 34 Stand in the company of the elders; stay close to whoever is wise.

Elders possess a wealth of life experiences and knowledge that can guide us in choosing a career while making better life decisions and navigating through challenges. Their insights can help us gain a broader perspective on life. They have faced various hardships and triumphs, which gives them a unique ability to offer guidance and advice. I think it’s important to actively seek out their wisdom. Sometimes, it’s easy to overlook their knowledge or assume that their experiences are outdated. But we would be missing out on a wealth of wisdom if we don’t pay attention. It’s crucial to approach them with an open mind and a genuine desire to learn. Engaging in meaningful conversations with our elders can be incredibly enlightening and rewarding. I also think that by showing interest in their wisdom, we demonstrate respect for their life journey. It’s a way of acknowledging their value and contributions, which can foster stronger intergenerational bonds. It’s important to create an environment where they feel appreciated and heard. By actively listening to their stories and seeking their advice, we can also make them feel valued within our own families and communities.

I once asked a man, “Why do they call you the whistler?” He replied, “I couldn’t sing but I could whistle while I work and every edge remained in sight.” You see he was a carpenter and he taught many how to run an edge and keep their carpentry skills tight. People paid attention to his directions and made a life out of building anything out of wood; homes, furniture, stairs, porches and the like. Anything that could be built with a hammer, nails and a saw Clifford Wilson could build. If you sweated at a few job sites with the Whistler, then you came away with a life-long bank of knowledge and probably still build things even as you grow older because you paid attention to and was willing to learn how to be a wise carpenter as you were so demonstrated when you eagerly watched and grew to be one surefire carpenter yourself. You brought along a close friend with you who still speaks of his “Whistler days” of learning how to build things right. This friend was a friend of the son of the Whistler named Bruce and his best bud Russ. They both learned the skills of a wise old carpenter applying themselves in his instruction to be the best wood worker around because they paid attention and laid that foundation strong. Learn from the wise the elders of life’s truth. Amen.

Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.

At the Savior’s command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and for ever. Amen.

I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for a little boy named David Alexander. Praise God thank You Jesus. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.
