10-22-2023 Matthew 22 V-2021 His tax you must obey
The Gospel of Matthew Chapter 22 v- 20 thru 21
20 (Jesus) said to them, “Whose image is this and whose inscription?”21 (The Herodians) replied, “Caesar’s.” At that (Jesus) said to them, “Then repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God.”
The question was a trap set for Jesus, as the Pharisees and Herodians wanted to find a way to accuse Him of either supporting or opposing the payment of taxes to the Roman Emperor. If Jesus had advocated against paying taxes, He could have been charged with sedition or rebellion against the Roman authorities. On the other hand, if He had supported paying taxes, He might have lost favor with the Jewish population who despised Roman occupation.
Jesus’ response, “Pay to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s,” demonstrated His wisdom and ability to navigate a delicate situation. By acknowledging the authority of Caesar and the necessity of paying taxes, He avoided being accused of rebellion. Simultaneously, by emphasizing the importance of giving to God what is God’s, He reminded His listeners of their ultimate allegiance to God and the need to prioritize spiritual matters.
This statement has been interpreted in different ways throughout history. Some see it as a clear separation between political and religious spheres, implying that individuals should fulfill their civic duties while also prioritizing their spiritual obligations. Others interpret it as a call to prioritize God over worldly matters, suggesting that one’s ultimate allegiance should be to God rather than any earthly authority. God First. Amen.

Kairos 56. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for a friend and his wife for a baby to be born has been answered; she is 23 weeks pregnant with a little boy. Praise God thank You Jesus. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.
