Gospel of Matthew Ch 23 v- 16 thru 22

16 “Woe to you, blind guides, who say, ‘If one swears by the temple, it means nothing, but if one swears by the gold of the temple, one is obligated.’ 17 Blind fools, which is greater, the gold, or the temple that made the gold sacred? 18 And you say, ‘If one swears by the altar, it means nothing, but if one swears by the gift on the altar, one is obligated.’ 19 You blind ones, which is greater, the gift, or the altar that makes the gift sacred? 20 One who swears by the altar swears by it and all that is upon it; 21 one who swears by the temple swears by it and by him who dwells in it; 22 one who swears by heaven swears by the throne of God and by him who is seated on it.

An attack on the use of clever but unsound reasoning that declared some oaths binding with one being obligated and others not which means nothing and held the binding oath to be the one made by something of lesser value such as the gold or the gift left on the altar. Such teaching Jesus points out that it inverts the order of values and reveals the instructors to be blind guides of moral character. Since Matthew tells a Jesus who forbids all oaths to his disciples as described in Matthew 5:33–37 “Again you have heard that it was said to your ancestors, ‘Do not take a false oath, but make good to the Lord all that you vow.’ But I say to you, do not swear at all; not by heaven, for it is God’s throne; nor by the earth, for it is his footstool; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. Do not swear by your head, for you cannot make a single hair white or black. Let your ‘Yes’ mean ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No’ mean ‘No.’ Anything more is from the evil one.” This is how Jesus ridicules the Pharisees on their own terms while knowing this woe does not set up a standard for Christian moral conduct. Doesn’t the Seven Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy follow the order of goodwill in moral conduct? I’ve decided to let them linger as something to reflect on over and over again. Amen.

The SEVEN CORPORAL WORKS OF MERCY are Feeding the Hungry, Giving Drink to the Thirsty, Clothing the Naked, Sheltering the Homeless, Visiting the Imprisoned, Comforting the Sick and Burying the Dead. The SEVEN SPIRITUAL WORKS OF MERCY are Teaching the Ignorant, Praying for the Living and the Dead, Correcting Sinners, Counseling Those in Doubt, Consoling the Sorrowful, Bearing Wrongs Patiently and Forgiving Wrongs Willingly.

Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. Silence for the prayers of others dealing with the war in Ukraine. In the Holy Spirit we pray our brothers in Kairos especially a prayer for our men in blue. We pray for Holy Mother Church. We pray for the intersession of our Holy Mother for the sister of Jackie her name is Loreen. Daily prayers for our neighbor Thelma. Prayers for a friend and his wife for a baby to be born. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

**Fools blind you greater which**

Blind guides you woe too

Meaning nothing temple swear say you aloof

Only obligated if swearing temple’s gold to do

Fools blind you greater which temple or gold your proof

Sacred is which foundation’s altar or gold with no scent

Saying you even altar swear has no effect on life’s descent

Obligated only altar gift swear you say you can’t circumvent

Ones blind you greater which altar or gift

Sacred gift made swearing altar riff

Swear on the temple you can’t resist

Dwelling person swears to this gift

Swear to Heaven God’s Throne you admit

It seated your One and Only Holy Benefit
