First Corinthians Chapter 11 Verse 23 thru 29

23 For I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you, that the Lord Jesus, on the night he was handed over, took bread, 24 and, after he had given thanks, broke it and said, “This is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” 25 In the same way also the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the death of the Lord until he comes. 27 Therefore whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord unworthily will have to answer for the body and blood of the Lord. 28 A person should examine himself, and so eat the bread and drink the cup. 29 For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body, eats and drinks judgment on himself.

In 1 Corinthians 11:23-29, the Apostle Paul delivers a profound teaching about the Holy Eucharist, emphasizing the sacredness of this sacrament and its significance in the life of believers. Paul recounts the Last Supper, where Jesus instituted the Eucharist, affirming that it is not merely a ritual but a deep communion with the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ.

As we partake in this divine gift, it is crucial to understand the call to holiness that accompanies it. In verse 28, Paul urges believers to “examine themselves” before approaching the altar, underscoring the importance of self-reflection and accountability in our spiritual lives. This examination entails more than a cursory glance; it requires us to confront our conscience, recognizing our sins and shortcomings.

Engaging in this practice of examination leads us to a place of repentance, prompting us to seek confession and absolution from a priest. By doing so, we not only acknowledge our sins but also receive the forgiveness necessary to remain in a state of grace, allowing us to worthily receive the Eucharist.

The Eucharist is a source of life and strength for Christians, and to approach it without preparation can lead to grave consequences, as Paul warns in verse 29 about eating and drinking judgment upon oneself. This is a call to integrity in our faith journey, reminding us that our relationship with God is rooted in love and authenticity.

As we prepare to receive the Holy Communion, let us take to heart the importance of examining our consciences, seeking reconciliation, and ultimately coming to the altar as a pure vessel ready to embrace the immense grace of Christ. Amen.

Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.

At the Savior’s command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.

I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

04-02-2026 1 Corinthians 11 v2329

**A Person Should Examine Himself**

In the quiet of the night, a sacred meal we share,

A table set before us, with love beyond compare.

On that fateful night, the Master took His place,

With bread and cup before Him, an act of boundless grace.

He took the bread in His hands, and blessed it with a prayer,

“Take, eat, this is My body, broken for you with care.”

In every broken piece, a promise etched in time,

That through His sacrifice, our souls become eternally prime.

The cup He raised in the light, filled with a crimson hue,

“Drink, this is My blood poured out, a covenant made new.”

In each sip, a reminder—of love’s enduring call,

In unity and spirit, we gather, one and all.

“Examine your hearts well,” He cautioned to the crowd,

“For in this holy moment, let your faith be loud.

Come not in vain, but cherish, the sacred truth you hold,

For in remembering Him, our hearts and lives unfold.”

In every taste, a story—of grace that binds us tight,

In every shared communion, we walk in purest light.

So let us come together, with reverence and with song,

In the heart of our remembrance, in love, we all belong. Amen.
