The Gospel of John Chapter 5 Verse 17 thru 30

17 But Jesus answered them, “My Father is at work until now, so I am at work.” 18 For this reason the Jews tried all the more to kill him, because he not only broke the sabbath but he also called God his own father, making himself equal to God. 19 Jesus answered and said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, a son cannot do anything on his own, but only what he sees his father doing; for what he does, his son will do also. 20 For the Father loves his Son and shows him everything that he himself does, and he will show him greater works than these, so that you may be amazed. 21 For just as the Father raises the dead and gives life, so also does the Son give life to whomever he wishes. 22 Nor does the Father judge anyone, but he has given all judgment to his Son, 23 so that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him. 24 Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes in the one who sent me has eternal life and will not come to condemnation but has passed from death to life. 25 Amen, amen, I say to you, the hour is coming and is now here when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. 26 For just as the Father has life in himself, so also he gave to his Son the possession of life in himself. 27 And he gave him power to exercise judgment, because he is the Son of Man. 28 Do not be amazed at this, because the hour is coming in which all who are in the tombs will hear his voice 29 and will come out, those who have done good deeds to the resurrection of life, but those who have done wicked deeds to the resurrection of condemnation. 30 “I cannot do anything on my own; I judge as I hear, and my judgment is just, because I do not seek my own will but the will of the one who sent me.

In John 5:17-30, we find profound insights into the nature of Christ’s divine authority and His role in granting eternal life. Jesus boldly asserts His equality with God, saying, “My Father is working until now, and I am working.” This revelation emphasizes His divine mission and the power He wields as the Son of God.

Verses 24-25 encapsulate the essence of His promise: “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life.” Here, Jesus underscores the simplicity of salvation — it is through belief in Him that we receive eternal life. It is not reliant on our works or merits, but on our faith and acceptance of His redemptive grace.

Furthermore, Jesus calls us to a life of transformation, urging us to submit to Him and turn away from sin. His message is one of hope and renewal; He doesn’t merely offer life after death but invites us to experience a new life here and now. When we surrender our old ways and embrace His teachings, we open ourselves to a relationship that transcends earthly existence.

In verses 28-29, Jesus speaks of the resurrection, assuring us that all will rise: those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment. This duality underscores the importance of our choices and the transformative power of believing in Him. In conclusion, John 5:17-30 reinforces our call to believe in Jesus and accept the life He offers. By submitting to Him and renouncing sin, we embrace not just a future promise, but a present day reality filled with His grace. Amen.

Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.

At the Savior’s command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.

I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. **Those Who Hear Will Live**

In the heat of debate, where the questions arise,

Jesus stands firm, with truth in His eyes.

“My Father is working,” He boldly declares,

A beautiful bond, beyond earthly cares.

The sabbath, they say, is meant for the rest,

But His work is divine; He knows what’s best.

In the rhythm of grace, the blind and the lame,

He invites all to witness the power of His Name.

He speaks of His Father, a unity so clear,

In the heart of His message, there’s nothing to fear.

For in doing His work, Jesus takes on the role,

Of the one who gives life, who uplifts the soul.

“Truly, I tell you, the Son can do naught,

Unless by the Father, all wonders are wrought.

He gives life to the dead, with a voice that commands,

And the spirit of hope flows through His hands.”

The judgment is near, and all must awake,

For the time is at hand, and our choices we make.

The ones who hear and believe in His Word,

Shall rise in the glory of all they’ve conferred.

In the depths of our trials, His essence we find,

Echoes of mercy, a love intertwined.

As He calls us to witness the depths of His grace,

In every heartbeat, we seek His eternal embrace.

So whether on sabbath, or any given day,

His work never ceases, come what may.

For in the heart of His life, we discover the reason,

To follow our Savior, through every season. Amen.
