03-04-2026 Matthew 20 v1719 He Will Be Raised On The Third Day

The Gospel of Matthew Chapter 20 Verse 17 thru 19

17 As Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve [disciples] aside by themselves, and said to them on the way, 18 “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death, 19 and hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and scourged and crucified, and he will be raised on the third day.”

In Matthew 20:17-19, Jesus prepares His disciples for the events leading up to His crucifixion, providing a pivotal moment that highlights His role as the Messiah and the nature of His mission. As He journeys toward Jerusalem, He takes the opportunity to directly foretell His impending suffering, death, and resurrection. This passage is significant as it emphasizes Jesus’ awareness of His fate and His willingness to embrace it, illustrating the concept of redemptive suffering.

In the verses, Jesus specifies the “Son of Man,” a title that conveys both His humanity and His divine authority. His reference to being betrayed, condemned, mocked, and crucified underscores the very real and painful sacrifices He must endure. The foretelling of His resurrection on the third day serves not only as a promise of hope but also as the cornerstone of Christian faith, affirming that death is not the end, but a pathway to eternal life.

The disciples’ reactions to Jesus’ predictions reveal their struggles to fully grasp the gravity of His message. Despite having walked closely with Him, they often seem to miss the deeper implications of His suffering. This moment serves as a teaching opportunity, inviting believers to ponder the true nature of glory in the Kingdom of God, which contrasts sharply with worldly expectations of power and success.

Overall, Matthew 20:17-19 serves as a profound reminder of Jesus’ commitment to His mission, the transformative power of His resurrection, and the call for His followers to understand and embrace their own journeys of faith, even when faced with hardships. It challenges readers to reflect on the nature of sacrifice, redemption, and the hope that lies beyond our death suffering. Amen.

Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.

At the Savior’s command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.

I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. **He Will Be Raised On The Third Day**

In the city, the path is clear,

A teacher walks without fear,

To Jerusalem, His journey unfolds,

With purpose in heart, a story told.

He gathers His disciples near,

As prophecy whispers, they strain to hear,

“The Son of Man,” with a solemn tone,

Will be betrayed, left all alone.

Handed to rulers, the fate now defined,

Condemned and mocked, humanity blind,

They’ll scourge and crucify, a darkened plot,

But on the third day, a victory sought.

Oh, burdens to carry, the weight of the world,

In love’s great embrace, redemption unfurled,

For in suffering, life’s fullness is found,

A promise of grace in the shadows profound.

So we walk with Him, through sorrow and strife,

Learning His heart, embracing new life,

For the path of a King leads to sacrifice,

And through every trial, we find paradise. Amen.
