02-28-2026 Matthew 5 v4348 So Be perfect As Your Heavenly Father Is Perfect
The Gospel of Matthew Chapter 5 Verse 43 thru 48
43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your heavenly Father, for he makes his sun rise on the bad and the good, and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust. 46 For if you love those who love you, what recompense will you have? Do not the tax collectors do the same? 47 And if you greet your brothers only, what is unusual about that? Do not the pagans do the same? 48 So be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect.”
In Matthew 5:43-48, Jesus challenges us to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us, calling us to a higher standard of love and compassion. This teaching can feel overwhelming, especially when we consider our human nature, which often leans toward resentment and anger. However, we must remember that God understands our struggles. He knows how difficult it is for us to achieve perfection in our thoughts, words, actions, and deeds. This is precisely why He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, into the world. Through Christ’s sacrificial death on the cross, our sins are forgiven, and we are offered a path to redemption.
God does not expect us to attain perfection on our own. Instead, He invites us to lean on Him for strength and guidance. To embrace His teachings and reflect His love, we need to immerse ourselves in His Word daily. Scripture serves as a source of inspiration and wisdom, equipping us with the knowledge we need to navigate the complexities of life and the challenges of loving those who may hurt us.
Additionally, we are called to pray unceasingly over every aspect of our lives. Through prayer, we cultivate a close and personal relationship with God, seeking His guidance and empowerment. In moments of doubt or struggle, it is through prayer that we find the strength to extend grace and love even to those who are difficult to love.
Finally, as we grow in faith, let us boldly proclaim the gospel, sharing the transformative message of Christ with confidence. By relying on His grace, studying His Word, and nurturing our relationship with Him, we can strive toward the perfection that He calls us to, ultimately becoming reflections of His love. Amen.
Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.
At the Savior’s command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.
I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. **So Be perfect As Your Heavenly Father Is Perfect**
In the heart of the mountain, words pure and bright,
A call to the ages, a challenge to embrace the Light.
“Love your foes,” He whispers, “bless those who scorn,”
In the depths of our trials, new hope is reborn.
“Pray for the ones who seek to bring strife,
For in loving the wicked, you mirror true life.
For the sun shines on all, both just and the vile,
The rain falls the same, so extend a kind smile.”
What’s given to friends, oh, that’s easy to do,
But to love those who hurt us? That’s the path more true.
To be perfect like the Father, a daunting decree,
Yet in mercy and grace lies our true mastery.
With every kind gesture, hatred’s chains break,
To embody compassion, for the world’s eternal sake.
So rise up, dear spirit, reflect heaven’s art,
For in loving our enemies, we transform our heart.
Let the world see your light, let it burn the dark night,
Walk hand in hand with love, let your spirit take flight.
In this beautiful journey, where we learn to forgive,
We’ll find heaven on earth, in the way that we live. Amen.
