02-25-2026 Luke 11 v2932 Something Greater Than Jonah Here
The Gospel of Luke Chapter 11 Verse 29 thru 32
29 While still more people gathered in the crowd, he said to them, “This generation is an evil generation; it seeks a sign, but no sign will be given it, except the sign of Jonah. 30 Just as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so will the Son of Man be to this generation. 31 At the judgment the queen of the south will rise with the men of this generation and she will condemn them, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and there is something greater than Solomon here. 32 At the judgment the men of Nineveh will arise with this generation and condemn it, because at the preaching of Jonah they repented, and there is something greater than Jonah here.”
In Luke 11:29-32, Jesus speaks of a generation seeking a sign, but He emphasizes that no sign shall be given except the sign of Jonah. This reference points to Jonah’s three days in the belly of the fish, symbolizing the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. This profound event transcends human understanding, serving as the ultimate sign of God’s love and redemptive power. Jesus’ resurrection provides us with a glimpse into the divine, revealing that our comprehension of the sacred is enriched through faith and revelation, not merely through outward signs.
For those of us committed to a spiritual journey, this passage calls us to recognize that the true sign of Jesus has already been delivered through His life, death, and resurrection. It is a call to deeper understanding and relationship with God. Delving into the Word of God daily is not only a practice but an imperative that enables us to grasp the intricacies of our faith. Through scripture, we learn to practice our beliefs, pray fervently, and proclaim the gospel with confidence.
Being “Spirit-led, God-inspired, and Christ-fed” means opening ourselves to the transformative power of God’s Word. As we engage with scripture, we cultivate a deeper relationship with Christ and discover the profound mysteries of the faith that may have eluded us before. This journey not only equips us but also empowers us to live out our faith authentically, sharing the light of Christ in a world in dire need of hope. Amen.
Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.
At the Savior’s command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.

**Something Greater Than Jonah Here**
In the heart of the crowd, so restless and bold,
A tale of the ancients, the truth to behold.
“Evil generation,” the words rang so clear,
For signs they demanded, while faith lingered near.
Yet Jesus, in wisdom, spoke soft yet profound,
Of Jonah and Nineveh, salvation renowned.
With a prophet as witness, their hearts would ignite,
A call to repentance, to turn from the night.
For greater than Jonah stood here in their midst,
Yet their eyes remained veiled, their faith dismissed.
The Queen of the South traveled far, as foretold,
To hear Solomon’s wisdom, a story retold.
How much more should they seek, in the light of the dawn,
The Savior among them, the promise, the Son?
For the signs that they sought were not found in the skies,
But in hearts that awaken, in love’s purest ties.
So heed now the message, don’t wait for a sign,
For the greatest of treasures in faith we shall find.
In the echoes of ages, His truth will resound,
In the hearts of the humble, where grace does abound. Amen.
