01-30-2026 Mark 4 v2634 What Shall We Compare The Kingdom of God
The Gospel of Mark Chapter 4 Verse 26 thru 34
26 He said, “This is how it is with the kingdom of God; it is as if a man were to scatter seed on the land 27 and would sleep and rise night and day and the seed would sprout and grow, he knows not how. 28 Of its own accord the land yields fruit, first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear. 29 And when the grain is ripe, he wields the sickle at once, for the harvest has come.” 30 He said, “To what shall we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable can we use for it? 31 It is like a mustard seed that, when it is sown in the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on the earth. 32 But once it is sown, it springs up and becomes the largest of plants and puts forth large branches, so that the birds of the sky can dwell in its shade.” 33 With many such parables he spoke the word to them as they were able to understand it. 34 Without parables he did not speak to them, but to his own disciples he explained everything in private.
In Mark 4:26-34, Jesus uses parables to illustrate the nature of the Kingdom of God. The passage begins with the Parable of the Growing Seed, where a man scatters seed on the ground, and though he does not see its growth, it eventually sprouts and bears fruit. This reflects the organic, mysterious nature of God’s Kingdom, which can flourish in ways that are often beyond human understanding. The emphasis is on the power of God’s Word and how, even when we are unaware, the Kingdom is actively growing in the hearts of people.
The subsequent parable, that of the mustard seed, highlights the transformative potential of the Kingdom. The mustard seed, although one of the smallest seeds, grows into a large plant where birds can perch in its shade. This signifies that the Kingdom, though it may start small and humble, has the capacity to expand and offer refuge and hope to many. It invites us to trust in the seemingly insignificant beginnings, recognizing that God can work in profound ways through them.
When Jesus asks, “What shall we compare the Kingdom of God?” He is encouraging us to grasp its elusive nature and immense potential. The Kingdom of God operates on principles that may defy worldly standards; it thrives in humility, faith, and patience. By using these simple agricultural metaphors, Jesus invites us to see the Kingdom as a divine work that transcends human effort, reminding us of the importance of faith in the unseen. Ultimately, the parables reveal that the Kingdom of God is both a present reality and a future promise, growing quietly yet powerfully in the lives of those who believe. Amen.
Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.
At the Savior’s command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.
I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

**What Shall We Compare The Kingdom of God**
In fields of faith, a tale unfolds,
Of seeds unseen, yet life it holds,
A farmer casts the grain with care,
As hidden dreams awaken there.
By night and day, the earth so true,
Calls forth the growth, the green anew,
The farmer sleeps, yet all the while,
The seed breaks ground, a newborn smile.
First blade appears, so tender, bright,
Then ear of corn, reaching for light,
A mystery wrought in soil’s embrace,
A testament to time and His eternal grace.
The mustard seed, though small and meek,
Holds promise vast, the kingdom’s peak,
From little things, great wonders spring,
The smallest joy, a church to sing.
So gather, friends, this simple lore,
Of growth unseen, of open door,
For in our hearts, like seeds we sow,
The love of God in time will grow. Amen.
