12-28-2025 Matthew 2 v13-15, 19-23 Dwelt In A Town Called Nazareth

The Gospel of Matthew Chapter 2 Verse 13-15, 19-23

13 When they had departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Rise, take the child and his mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I tell you. Herod is going to search for the child to destroy him.” 14 Joseph rose and took the child and his mother by night and departed for Egypt. 15 He stayed there until the death of Herod, that what the Lord had said through the prophet might be fulfilled, “Out of Egypt I called my son.” 19 When Herod had died, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt 20 and said, “Rise, take the child and his mother and go to the land of Israel, for those who sought the child’s life are dead.” 21 He rose, took the child and his mother, and went to the land of Israel. 22 But when he heard that Archelaus was ruling over Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go back there. And because he had been warned in a dream, he departed for the region of Galilee. 23 He went and dwelt in a town called Nazareth, so that what had been spoken through the prophets might be fulfilled, “He shall be called a Nazorean.”

Today, as Holy Mother Church celebrates the Feast of the Holy Family, we reflect on a profound passage from the Gospel of Matthew, specifically Matthew 2:13-23. This scripture recounts the harrowing yet emotional journey of Joseph, Mary, and the infant Jesus as they flee to Egypt to escape King Herod’s deadly decree. In this moment of crisis, Joseph receives a divine message in a dream—a clear instruction from God—to take his family to safety.

In these verses, we see Joseph exemplifying unwavering faith and immediate obedience to God’s will. Without hesitation or doubt, he acts on the divine command, demonstrating that true faith is not merely about belief but about action. His readiness to protect and guide his family underlines the essence of fatherhood and the gravity of his role within the Holy Family. Joseph’s swift response reminds us of the sanctity of Divine instruction and the importance of being attuned to the whispers of God in our lives.

This event underscores the fulfillment of prophetic writings, as it mirrors the ancient prophecies concerning the Messiah’s origins and experiences. For instance, the flight into Egypt resonates with the prophecy from Hosea 11:1, “Out of Egypt I called my son,” while the later return to Nazareth aligns with prophecies indicating that the Messiah would be called a Nazarene. These carefully orchestrated events highlight God’s sovereignty in guiding the course of salvation history and affirm the reliability of the prophetic words spoken by the prophets of old.

As we celebrate this feast, let us reflect on our own willingness to follow God’s guidance, just as Joseph did. Are we ready to respond to God’s call, even when it requires us to step into the unknown or challenge our comfort zones? The Holy Family is a model for us—showing love, courage, and faithfulness in the face of adversity.

Today, let us strive to live out the virtues of the Holy Family in our own households and communities. May we have the wisdom and courage to act on God’s instructions without hesitation, nurturing faith and love in our lives. Like Joseph, may we be ever ready to embrace the will of God in every moment. Amen.

Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.

At the Savior’s command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.

I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

Ephesians 6:17-20

12-28-2025 Matthew 2 v13-15, 19-23

**Dwelt In A Town Called Nazareth**

In a land where the shadows fall deep,

A dream whispered softly, a secret to keep,

“Arise, Joseph, take flight through the night,

For danger is near; follow the stars bright light.”

With Mary beside him, their hearts filled with dread,

They fled from the king, where the infants lay dead,

Through the silent desert, beneath the pale moon,

A caravan of courage, escaping the murderous goon.

In the arms of the Pharaohs, they sought refuge sweet,

Where the cradle of hope felt safe and complete,

Yet the prophecy lingered, like a shadowed refrain,

That out of Egypt, He’d call them again.

For years they remained in the sands of that land,

The boy grew in wisdom, and grace held his hand,

Protecting the promise, the world’s greatest gift,

In the whispers of time, their spirits would lift.

At last, came the word, the angel’s decree,

“Return to your homeland; it’s time to be free,”

But fear held the heart as he pondered his fate,

For Herod still sought him, his wrath would not wait.

Guided by dreams and the stars up above,

With faith as their compass, and courage as love,

They ventured back home, to the land of the free,

Where history’s echoes rang, “A king you shall be.”

Thus settled in Nazareth, with prayers and with grace,

The child grew in favor, the world to embrace,

From humble beginnings, a journey divine,

In the tapestry of faith, forever will shine. Amen.
