12-17-2025 Psalm 72 v0120 May His Name Be Forever
The Book of Psalms Ch 72 Verse One Thru Twenty
1 Of Solomon. 2 O God, give your judgment to the king; your justice to the king’s son; That he may govern your people with justice, your oppressed with right judgment, 3 That the mountains may yield their bounty for the people, and the hills great abundance, 4 That he may defend the oppressed among the people, save the children of the poor and crush the oppressor. 5 May they fear you with the sun, and before the moon, through all generations. 6 May he be like rain coming down upon the fields, like showers watering the earth, 7 That abundance may flourish in his days, great bounty, till the moon be no more. 8 May he rule from sea to sea, from the river to the ends of the earth. 9 May his foes kneel before him, his enemies lick the dust. 10 May the kings of Tarshish and the islands bring tribute, the kings of Sheba and Seba offer gifts. 11 May all kings bow before him, all nations serve him. 12 For he rescues the poor when they cry out, the oppressed who have no one to help. 13 He shows pity to the needy and the poor and saves the lives of the poor. 14 From extortion and violence he redeems them, for precious is their blood in his sight. 15 Long may he live, receiving gold from Sheba, prayed for without cease, blessed day by day. 16 May wheat abound in the land, flourish even on the mountain heights. May his fruit be like that of Lebanon, and flourish in the city like the grasses of the land. 17 May his name be forever; as long as the sun, may his name endure. May the tribes of the earth give blessings with his name; may all the nations regard him as favored. 18 Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, who alone does wonderful deeds. 19 Blessed be his glorious name forever; may he fill all the earth with his glory. Amen and amen. 20 The end of the psalms of David, son of Jesse.
Psalm 72 is a beautiful prayer attributed to King Solomon, expressing a longing for divine justice and righteousness in the leadership of Israel. This psalm highlights the characteristics of an ideal ruler—a king who embodies God’s wisdom and compassion, promoting peace and equity for all people, especially the marginalized. The psalm begins with a request for God to grant the king the ability to judge righteously, illustrating the importance of divine guidance in leadership (Psalm 72:1-2).
The psalmist envisions a reign marked by prosperity, peace, and justice, portraying a world where the needs of the poor and oppressed are prioritized (Psalm 72:4, 12-14). The recurring call for God’s blessing reinforces the notion that true leadership is rooted in surrendering to God’s Holy Will. It emphasizes that earthly power is meant to serve God’s purposes, ensuring that justice prevails and mercy is extended.
For believers, Psalm 72 serves as a reminder of the importance of aligning our aspirations with God’s divine will. It calls us to evaluate our own hearts and actions in light of God’s righteousness, encouraging us to seek His guidance in our personal lives and in supporting just leadership in our communities. By surrendering our desires and ambitions to God’s perfect plan, we acknowledge that true peace and fulfillment come from Him alone.
In contemplating this psalm, we recognize that surrendering to God’s will is not an act of resignation, but a profound embrace of His goodness and promise. Trusting in His wisdom allows us to contribute to a world where justice, mercy, and love prevail. In doing so, we become instruments of His peace, reflecting the heart of Psalm 72 in our daily lives. Amen.
Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.
At the Savior’s command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.
I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. **Psalm 72; May His Name Be Forever**
In the realm where justice flows,
With mercy’s hand, the king bestows,
A throne of wisdom, firm and bright,
Guided by truth His pure delight.
Let mountains sing, let valleys cheer,
For hope ascends, and love draws near.
The broken lifted, the humble blessed,
In every heart, a quiet rest.
O king, protect the weak and frail,
In your embrace, let justice never fail.
Like rain that falls on parched ground,
In grace, their lives shall be unbound.
The righteous fruit shall fill the land,
With peace as gentle as Your Eternal hand.
From oceans wide to shores unseen,
His kingdom flourishes, evergreen.
Deliver, save, and set them free,
Let every soul find Your righteous harmony.
From dawn’s first light to evening’s close,
His name resounds where mercy grows.
So let the nations come and bring
Their hopes and dreams to honor the king.
For in this reign of love and grace,
We find our home, our sacred place.
As echoes of this psalm we sing,
Together proclaiming, “Long live the King!”
In every heart, His rule divine,
Jesus Christ a legacy of love, His eternal sign. Amen.
