12-13-2025 Matthew 17 v0913 They Did Not Recognize Them
The Gospel of Matthew Ch 17 Verse Nine Thru Thirteen
9 As they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, “Do not tell the vision to anyone until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.” 10 Then the disciples asked him, “Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?” 11 He said in reply, “Elijah will indeed come and restore all things; 12 but I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him but did to him whatever they pleased. So also will the Son of Man suffer at their hands.” 13 Then the disciples understood that he was speaking to them of John the Baptist.
In Matthew 17:9-13, we witness a pivotal moment in the life of Jesus and His disciples. After the Transfiguration, Jesus instructs His disciples not to share their experience until after His resurrection. This scene highlights a profound truth – many people still fail to recognize Jesus for who He truly is. The disciples grapple with their understanding, much like many today who overlook the significance of Christ in their lives.
In our modern world, countless individuals turn away from the promise of salvation and eternal life that Jesus offers. Instead, they choose to pursue personal desires and fleeting pleasures, often seeking unlimited gratification in materialism, self-indulgence, or temporary happiness. This choice is not without consequence; it leads them further away from the path of service and compassion, ultimately distancing them from the love of God.
The passage reminds us that, just as in Jesus’ time, many remain blind to the ultimate truth of who He is. This blindness can have dire implications, creating a void that leaves individuals vulnerable to despair. By prioritizing self over service, they transition into a desolate existence, far removed from the joy and hope that a relationship with Christ brings.
As Christians, we are called to shine the light of Christ, fostering awareness of His love and grace. By reaching out to those in need and embodying Christ-like compassion, we can guide others away from the eternal pit of separation from God. Let us not lose sight of the greater purpose: to love, serve, and share the Gospel, ensuring that none are left to wander in darkness. Amen.
Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.
At the Savior’s command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.
I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

Ephesians 6:17-20
12-13-2025 Matthew 17 v0913
**They Did Not Recognize Them**
Upon the mountain high and grand,
Transfigured in the radiant land,
Elijah came, the prophet true,
With Moses by His side anew.
In garments bright, His face aglow,
The voice of God, a thunder’s flow,
“Listen to Him,” the heavens cried,
In awe the disciples looked and sighed.
As they descended from the height,
He charged them so, “Tell no one of this sight,
Until the Son of Man shall rise,”
The truth concealed in secret skies.
They pondered on the strokes of fate,
“Elijah comes, before it’s late,”
And Jesus taught with wisdom deep,
“Elijah’s here; in a silent weep.”
For in the heart of what you see,
The prophecies fulfilled shall truly be,
In every voice and every call,
The Spirit of the Lord is our all. Amen.
