11-11-2025 Luke 17 v0710 We Have Done What We Weare Obliged To Do
The Gospel of Luke Chapter 17 Verse 7 thru 10
7 “Who among you would say to your servant who has just come in from plowing or tending sheep in the field, ‘Come here immediately and take your place at table’? 8 Would he not rather say to him, ‘Prepare something for me to eat. Put on your apron and wait on me while I eat and drink. You may eat and drink when I am finished’? 9 Is he grateful to that servant because he did what was commanded? 10 So should it be with you. When you have done all you have been commanded, say, ‘We are unprofitable servants; we have done what we were obliged to do.’”
In Luke 17:7-10, Jesus presents a profound teaching about the nature of duty and service in the context of faith. He describes a scenario where a servant returns home after working in the fields, illustrating that after fulfilling their responsibilities, the servant is not owed gratitude; they are simply doing what is expected of them. This analogy resonates deeply as I reflect on my own surrender to living a life of being redeemed—serving the least, the marginalized, and the imprisoned.
In my journey, I have recognized that my acts of service are not transactions seeking acknowledgment or reward. Instead, they stem from a deep commitment to embodying Christ’s love in a world that often overlooks those who suffer. By prioritizing the needs of others, I engage in what Jesus refers to as “doing what we are obliged to do.” This service is not merely an obligation; it is an expression of my transformation and redemption through faith.
Serving the least—whether they are individuals experiencing homelessness, struggling with addiction, or caught in the cycle of incarceration—requires a heart aligned with God’s compassion. These are our brothers and sisters, each deserving of dignity, hope, and love. In choosing to walk alongside them, I understand that I am fulfilling my role as a servant of Christ, charged with living out the implications of my faith.
Thus, acknowledging ourselves as “unprofitable servants” is vital. It reminds us that our efforts, while meaningful, do not earn us favor with God. Instead, they are a response to the profound grace we have already received. In serving, I find purpose, reflecting the heart of Jesus, who came not to be served but to serve. In this, I discover true discipleship and fulfillment in being His hands and feet in the world. Amen.
Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.
At the Savior’s command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.
I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. Novena Day 3 for the repose of the Soul of Edgar Bruce. RIP In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

Ephesians 6:17-20
11-11-2025 Luke 17 v0710
**We Have Done What We Were Obliged To Do**
In fields where rhythms of labor resound,
A servant toils, his duties unbound,
Scouring the land till the day’s work is done,
Yet humbly returns when the setting sun.
“Does he thank that servant?” the Master inquires,
For toil is a duty, not meant to inspire,
To serve with devotion, no praise is bestowed,
For in this, the heart of true service unfolds.
When we’ve done all that’s asked, no more to amend,
We’re but unworthy, servants—no need to pretend,
For grace isn’t earned by the sweat on our brow,
But found in the love we give here and now.
With hands that are calloused and spirits laid bare,
We labor for others, in each heavy share,
To fulfill what’s commanded, not seeking acclaim,
But binding our lives in a common refrain.
So march on, dear servant, with faith as your guide,
In humility’s shadow, let gratefulness abide,
For life’s not a ledger of debts to repay,
But a journey of love, as we walk day by day. Amen.
